PostSubject: bad trainers?   bad trainers? EmptyFri Apr 26, 2013 1:16 pm

so i've been trying to find a training class for blu to join, the problem is there's only a handful of dog trainers in my area. so while i was researching the different one's avaliable i came across some scary story's for one of them. basicly what happened is people call this guy up to train their dog and he meets them and the dog and tells them he will take the dog in his home to train him and their dog will have full run of the house. he fails to give them the promised update calls for several days so they go to his house only to find that he is either drunk or high (or both) has beatten their dog and tortured them via the shock collars. and in some cases he has let these dogs loose to run around town as they choose and have been picked up by animal control.

after seeing this i was glad i researched him before giving him a call... i would have most likely ended up doing thing's to him that would put me in jail lol.

here's a link to just a handful of the complaints raised against this man.
williams dog training company

so im wondering has anyone else come across anything like this before? is something like this a concern when seeking out a reputable and knowledgeable trainer?

It's a big concern, and it can go much higher than your "local trainers".

We have a Canadian version of the "Dog Whisperer" named Brad Pattison. He has been on TV for a number of years here to my knowledge. Because of this he has opened up numerous training schools in the goal of educating trainers with his methods. These trainers then get to go out and train dogs under his name.

A quick search of Youtube or Google can pretty much tell you all you need to know about this guy, though he is VERY active about taking down any negative comments about him online. I'm sure he has alarms set up for his name.

Kelly and I actually saw an episode where he took a dog out of the house and had it put down because it was too far gone to help. He didn't rehome it, or bring it to a shelter, he had it put down. The kids were heartbroken so he came back the next day and let them pick a puppy they could have.

Another episode we saw dealt with a couple who had 2 yappy dogs that lived beside a road and corn field. They had zero recall and were untrained. So to shock the owners into understanding they needed to train their dogs better and not have them charge him when he entered the house, he opened the door and let them run off into the field. All the while Telling the family "You did this. You're the ones letting your dogs run wild. So now they're wild". The women broke down in tears and collapsed on the spot as Brad ran off into the field to get her dogs back.

There are videos of him yanking and hitting dogs during live demonstrations or seminars.

Video quality sucks, but you can see how he talks to his clients and how the dog is handled in his care in this case. The first 2 mins of the video is just him talking about how awesome he is and why people should listen to him, the last minute is where he loses his patience.

Like I said it isn't hard to make your own opinion up about the guy if you just do some research, but because he was, or is, on tv people throw money at him or his trainers who are coached to use his methods.

Sadly people don't always do the homework they need to do before they get into trusting someone with something so important.

Shame really.

All of this is simply my opinion on the guy and his methods, but I know I wouldn't have him deal with either of my girls.

wow... im not sure what else to really say. he is something else, it's bad enough that he treats the dogs that way but he also be-littles and talks down to his clients. watched a few other video's of him... i can't help but wonder is how he is invited on tv shows as a positive figure in dog training.

I would never let this man anywhere near my dog, not even so much as to pet him.

He holds that poor dog off the ground! By a choke collar! That golden was pretty mellow too, I don't want to imagine what he would do to a sibe!

Yeah he's pretty much a class A moron when it comes to training or dealing with people, at least from Kelly and my point of view. We haven't seen many episodes but they were all jaw dropping, in terms of how he decided to "help".

It's funny there is an episode where he helps a young sibe, if I remember right he advocates the family off leash the sibe, and it won't run away.

WoW I make it sound like we've seen every episode. Razz

The video floating around of him correcting the white Pitt bull is probably worse. He yanks and hits the dog, even tells the dog to LEAVE IT, while the dog is looking at him for cues the entire time. It isn't hard to find.

I don't know how he got his show, or how he was (or continues) to be on TV as a role model on how to train a dog. If it was just him I wouldn't care so much, but having a TV show and trainers all around Canada is disheartening for me.

He is a disgusting human being, we were shocked at his treatment of both the clients, who are people trying to find solutions, and of the dogs, who need guidance and discipline. I think they gave him a show thinking he would be the Canadian Dog Whisperer, and I haven't seen any of his shows advertised in over a year, pretty sure after all this surfaced they pulled him off the air. I stopped watching after he let the dogs run off, not a minute after you see them run across the street a car passes, I would have killed that man if those were my dogs.

I'd like to put one of those collars around his neck, not say a word to him, and lift him off the ground by his neck every time he looked sideways.

OMG I am cringling overhere.
This is horrible.
I saw the white boxer and leave it what the heck did he do where are these commands so he advocated just slapping and pulling and that is the command I am horrified.

That man is horrible! He is seriously egotistical, however, it's sad that people are sucked in by him and actually pay him!
