2. Read the Stickies and Announcements. Each sub-forum may have specific rules which trump the Forum Rules in cases where there may be conflicting information. Read the rules of each board before you post so that you are clear on the expectations of the staff.
3. Respect ALL Staff and Admins. These people volunteer of their time and MUST be respected as well as their word adhered to. They are responsible for maintaining a free, open, clear and organized forum. Anyone found to be openly undermining any official ruling by a staff member will be warned.
4. Signatures: One picture only and no links. Images: To keep the forum looking neat and tidy, we ask that members insert just one picture only in their signatures. The picture should be no more than 200x500 pixels and should be of an appropriate subject, for example, your dogs and their names. Should you need assistance creating an appropriate signature, please PM an Admin and we would be happy to help! This is to ensure that signatures remain a welcome addition to our forum instead of a cumbersome distraction. Links: Hyperlinks in signatures--unless to a personal blog or photo stream of your dogs (like Flckr or Piscasa, for example)--are strictly prohibited. Thinking about a second Sib Empty
PostSubject: Thinking about a second Sib   Thinking about a second Sib EmptyTue May 21, 2013 12:34 am

Hi All,

While it is a bit out in the future, I know I want to get a second Sib, but I am not sure when would be best for me to do so. First a little background, Maya is now 1yr 8months and was with her litter mates and about 15 adult sibs at the breeder until she was about 3months and has lived with me in a small house with my roommate and her dog since. I recently finished my PhD and am doing a postdoc here for the next yr (and will still be living in the same place) but will be moving to somewhere new in about a yr from now. What I do not know is if I will be seeking another postdoc (2yr position) or a more permanent job at that time. Also, note that Maya has always had a lot of separation anxiety and has rarely ever been left fully alone, there is normally another dog or person home.

What I am not sure about is when would it be best to introduce a second sib into the mix, and was wanting some opinions on some of my options. I am leaning more at option 1 or 2, as I would like to have keep the two dogs slightly closer in age (2-3 yrs apart seems much better then 4-6 in keeping there activity levels more similar to help let them tire eachother out).

Thanks in advance for any suggestions and feedback

Options as I see them:
1. get the second sib a few months before I move, letting the dogs get used to eachother and then they have eachother when I move to a new place.

2. Wait until after I move and have settled into my new area to seek getting a second sib.

3. Wait until I see how Maya does in the new place as an only dog and potentially wait till she is slightly older and I have a permanent job (and thus not another relocation in the short term)

If its gonna be another year before you move then by all means go ahead and get another husky as long as you can give it the time it deserves especially if it is a puppy.
