I have a 2 year old hyper husky and I want to take her camping she tries to hunt squirrels while walking/canicrossing she's almost got the commands down but I've tried everything to keep her from chasing animals I've contacted a trainer and a vet and nothing helped this is kind of concerning me I dont know if I should take her camping because she "talks" when she cant get to the creature and I also need advice on some good products to use for tying her up and is it safe to tent camping and what should I bring

Trying to hunt squirrels and talking are not behavioral problems that you can train away.  It's just who they are.

These are normal, essential characteristics of the breed.  The best thing you can do is prevent it by keeping her busy and staying engaged, but the chances of you getting her to ignore a squirrel in the woods are slim to none.

You are aware of their prey drive, yeah?

Yes, tent camping is safe.  You don't need anything special other than the normal camping safety stuff.

That is the worst advice I have ever heard.

Muzzles are for aggressive dogs that bite.

Your dog is neither aggressive nor biting.

That would be a gross (and pointless) misuse of a muzzle.

If she is on a leash with you then she won't chase or catch an animal, but there's hardly anything you can do to prevent them from *wanting* to other than to keep her busy and active and engaged.

Huskies kill things all the time.  It just happens.  They are bona fide hunters with a strong prey drive...although not in the disciplined sporting dog sense, ha Smile

Excellent. Engage her and her drive for your own needs and purposes.

As my friend would say, "become the moose."

Make yourself the most interesting thing she sees.

Yea when he said that I just dropped him I know she isn't aggressive but I really don't want her hurting anyones pet and shell play with other dogs but will get very roudy I think that's what the trainer was seeing as aggression and thanks (I'm new at owning a husky and I've looked everywhere before I got her and this is the only website that I found helpful XD I've always owned bordercollies)

Huskies are a special breed that require special owners and special trainers.

They're quite unlike most breeds.

They play rough and have very assertive personalities. Perfectly normal.

Well if she's 2 she'll start settling down soon so long as you fulfill her needs and keep training her consistently and calmly.

The one that you feel safest with and best about.

Many people use many different things and they all feel theirs is the best.

The prey drive is just something that they have, and I don't think there is any getting away from it. Keeping your dog engaged and interested, as has been said, is probably the only option.
The only thing I would say about the tent, is don't leave your dog unattended inside. Especially if you are outside. She will want to be where you are and involved in what's going on. Not being able to will probably drive her crazy. Especially if she can't see you. And be careful when opening the tent. I would probably get her leashed first, just in case she spots something through the open door and decides she needs to have it.

I think I've said this before somewhere on here lol but she seems to listen to me when I give her the on by command until it comes to cats and sometimes squirrels but I've never had her out in the woods and practiced any of the commands for I live in town and I'm also afraid of losing her and im sorry for all the questions just rather ask for advice then to go take her out in the middle of nowhere having no clue what I'm getting myself to get into and do you have any training advice to get her to come when called
