| So I got a bike and was expecting to slowly introduce Athena to jog beside the bike. I planned on introducing her to the bike today and walking her and the bike together etc. Then do a little more each day until I could ride around the block with her beside me.
Well she didn't need that long, she was so confortable beside the bike and before I knew it, I was on the bike and she was running along beside me. SHE LOVED IT and did SO GOOD! It was the neatest feeling being able to keep up with her going full speed ahead. I wanted to keep going but didn't want to over do it and she was slowing down a lot after a mile. I cannot wait to go with her again. It was such a good feeling to share that uninhibited freedom of speed with her. |

| The first time I went biking with my 2 (about 3 months ago) it was pretty damn cool! I love to see them trot along at their own speed...it's awesome! How do you bike with her? Do you have some sort of bike attachment? If not, I would definitely invest in one. It's so much safer and easier too! I have the walky dog and Mya especially loves it! |

| I hope you are biking on grass and not concrete. Walking and jogging are one thing, but biking I would not start with a 6 month old pup since it is so much more high impact on those developing joints. I'd wait at least a couple more months if not more before biking with her. I know the feeling too, I finally got a Springer bike attachment for my dog as well and it is wonderful! If you're in the states then waiting a few more months before continuing the biking shouldn't be too hard since that's when the weather will be cooling down making the temps more conducive to the higher output exercise she'll be getting. And if you haven't got a bike attachment yet I strongly urge you to consider one. This breed is so driven and can easily take you down in an instant. Riding with a bike attachment will definitely help and make it easier for it. There's no guarantee you won't still crash with the bike attachment but those instances should definitely decrease with such a helpful device. What royally stinks for me is that after years of waiting I finally bit the bullet and bought a Springer bike attachment. I've been doing our training regularly to prepare to do some serious riding this coming fall, winter, spring and now hubby is telling me that I won't be able to use the Springer after all this because he doesn't want me to fall off and hurt the baby. I'm sure that if I can manage to wait 4 yrs (and now even longer) to bike with my dog that an extra 4 months won't kill you. _________________ |

| Oh that is good to know Val, thanks for the advice and CoNgRaTuLaTiOnS! I wasn't sure, and didn't know that walking/jogging was different than biking. I had posted earlier because I had heard about the joint thing but wasn't sure. I plan on being with my pup for a very long time so waiting a few months shouldn't be a problem especially if that's what's best for her. I guess I will just find another way to wear her out. |
