Shelby is starting to turn grey/blackish Sad I am so sad I was hoping she would say brownish red! Is this normal? I knew that their faces changed but I didn't know they changed different colors. Her top layer of fur is still white and brownish red and underneath it is DARK black Sad

Koda looked a LOT like Shelby, except the red of his face was a little lighter and had a bit of gray around it. Now there he only has a red/tan undertone and a little bit more darker of a red/tan behind his ears, back legs, and everything. Sad I know how you feel.

Sad I love the red color that is why I got her because when we got Abby she had a brother who was red but my parents like Abby's coloring so we didn't get her brother. When I saw Shelby I freaked out I was like I NEED to have her lol now she is turning dark like Abby, sad day.

I love Koda's coat! same circles around their eyes! haha
I just took some pictures of Shelby to put up here. It is funny her head is brownish and her tail is almost black.

Here is a good one of her face I woke her up with the flash so she kinda looks silly lol.

Yes, it's normal. Looking at Shelby's puppy pics I would have expected her to turn grey by adulthood. If she were a true red I would expect to see more red and less brown.

If you had posted that first pic and asked what color she'd end up by adulthood I would have guessed a silver/grey hands down.

Same for Kody!!! He was brown/beige/reddish when we got him at 12 weeks and he's grey now (with with brownish tones and black, but mostly grey).

It's crazy how they change colors!

It's not uncommon for their coats to change colors throughout their life, some get lighter and others get darker and some bounce back and forth with the seasons. Many sibes (of all different colors and patterns) show drastic coat color changes throughout their lives.

Check out this thread for some great photos of some members' sibes coat color changes:
Coat color changing?

Britt and Heather, you both should post your dogs' color changes in that thread as well to keep them all together and have more examples in that thread since this topic does seem to come up time and time again.

Mishka and Cheyenne will darken up and lighten up throughout the year depending on seasons and coat blows.

Heather - Koda's 9 week old picture just made my heart melt! So adorable.

Drogo is changing colors as well. He was primarily silver with a darker head and some black tips throughout his coat when I first got him (9 weeks old). I'll post pictures in the coat color changing thread.
