Husky Colorations Question... Empty
PostSubject: Husky Colorations Question...   Husky Colorations Question... EmptyTue May 22, 2012 2:36 pm

I did a lot of reading on husky colors as my Jinxy girl has quite the combination and after not finding anything similar to what she looks like, I'm questioning her status as a purebred. Of course, I'm not a breed snob and i don't particularly care if she is or isn't, but i paid a good amount of money for her. I got her from a guy who was a little younger than me who DID get her from a breeder [he gave me all the documentation and paperwork regarding vet visits and vaccinations] and supposedly she's AKC and CKC registered. It all seemed legit and she is one good looking gal... but she's like 4 different colors.

The top of her head and down her back are a chocolate brown, the bottom of her legs, around her eyes and her undercoat is a cream color outlined with the same dark brown of her back, her ears have an orange strip on them and of course she has the white face/muzzle/stomach and paws plus 2 white spots on her shoulders... I've heard of tri-color and creama... but nothing like this.

Any opinions?

Her colors are going to change, a lot! Cheyenne went through some weird color stages and at about a year old her colors stopped changing and her coat has generally stayed the same. She lightens and darkens but for the most part remains the same. Only thing that fades now is her mask Sad

You will probably see changes as her adult coat comes in and she loses the puppy coat. The cream around her head and shoulders may fade and be replaced by black top coat. She will probably keep the white patches, Cheyenne has them too.

She looks pure bred to me, but obviously you can't know for sure without a good DNA test. There are so many color variations on Huskies out there that I wouldn't be too worried about it. Ghost has a lot of the same markings, including the orange tinge in the ears and brown coming through around her head and where the black/grey goes to white on her legs. She's also darkening up a bit around her eyes, to the point that she may be developing a bit of a tan mask.

Siberians can be any color except for the merle pattern. Little late now, but: https://www.itsahuskything.com/t1042-how-to-find-a-reputable-breeder

Siberians come in so many different colors and a lot have no official name for the colors, but it doesn't mean they aren't sibes! Like both of mine are registered as grays, but they look totally different from one another. Siku is like a dilute black (which isn't listed on AKC as a color) and Elara is like a wolf gray.
