I want to know where everyone got their inspiration to get a Husky from.

In my case "Snow Dogs" was my favorite child hood movie as was "Balto". The older i got the more i did research and i just fell in love with their unique personalities that truly make a Husky a Husky.

Tell me where you got your inspiration from!

Simply likes a challenge, and couldn't think of a more challenging dog. Smile
just kidding, always just got lost i guess in the history of the breed, and it still being kind of pure even today unlike a lot of the other breeds.

Didn't know a whole lot going in, still learning tons as we go, but a happy man with the decision to welcome them into our family.

As a kid I was very into wolves and dogs. So in my kid mind the best combination of that was a husky. As I grew up, I never really lost the love for their beauty. I am the kind of person that researches things, whether I need to or not, I just like being informed. So I did a ton of reading about the breed, and the more I read, the more I knew that I would find a way to have a husky one day. I especially was interested in their big, independent personalities.

So as soon as we found ourselves in a good living situation for a dog, we made it happen! And I couldn't be happier about the decision, though we haven't hit the teenage phase yet Razz

Growing up I had always had GSDs but I always thought Huskies were amazing looking dogs. Then we had a GSD/Husky mix and he was a blast. Then my grandfather got a husky mix that he could let run loose up north(his house backed up to square miles of state land) and he was such an amazing dog, I used to be able to have a full conversation with him. From then on I knew I wanted a husky first then maybe a GSD.

When I was a child I wasn't allowed to have a dog. I begged my mom literally everyday for over 7 years! After seeing the movie Iron Will, my dream was to have a Husky. I thought they were absolutely beautiful, but the closest thing I came to one was a stuffed animal. I ended up getting GSD's, Dalmatians, & Yorkies instead, but never a Husky.

Finally, last year I went to PetLand to see if they had a certain item and I noticed they had a really cute black/white Husky puppy. My little sister fell IN LOVE! That was the first Husky I had ever came in contact with. The puppy was sick and I didn't like the idea of buying a puppy from a pet store, so I went home and talked to my mom. We agreed on getting a Husky for the family for Christmas and that's when I found Hayden's breeder and got my dream puppy! I love you

Wow Kelly your story is similar to mine. I always begged my mom to let me have a dog but she never budged! She always said I could have once I moved out. After 5 years of driving my mom insane she finally said yes in October. Now I am a soon Husky mom to be! I am probably driving my breeder insane with how much I text them!

I never had dogs growing, we always had cats, which was fine. My ex boyfriend worked with a guy that had several huskies and they had puppies and he asked if we ever wanted one. I said I wouldnt mind looking at them....fell in love at first sight and only knew what stories he told about the cleverness of the breed. I bought several books and online was amazing. Puppy class was interesting to say the least, and I thought what the hell did we get into.

But it was love from then on, they are an amazing breed and so loving. That was my biggest concern was that I liked having cats becasue they would snuggle with you. I think huskies are like big cats sometimes. They are very independant at times and so loving. Would never give them up no matter how annoying they can be at times.

That's indentical to me Sierra! I've wanted a dog for years on end. My mom never liked dogs or any animal. A few weeks ago I decided to give one final push and viola! I somehow managed to let me get one. I don't remember why, but I've always loved Huskies. Maybe because Snow Dogs was an awesome movie? I dunno. But I've always loved them

I have no idea how we ended up getting a husky. At all. I've never watched a movie involving huskies aside from the cartoon balto. My husband (boyfriend at the time) and I agreed we would get a dog together after graduation from high school since we both lost our childhood pets sophomore year. I had never thought of owning one in the past and neither of us can remember how we ended up researching sibes, but I'm glad we did since over the years I've come to learn I don't like most other breeds, haha.

I got two words for you: White Fang!

Always loved wolves and as a kid always told myself I'd own one. I grew up and understood having a wolf in the house wouldn't be the smartest idea and thus I learned about the husky breed and took great interest in it. I lived with my mother at the time and she flat out refused to get a dog but when I'd visit my dad I would spend time with his dogs (bullmastiff, rotty and boxer). Got me a career, moved in with my dad and now I have my husky :p

I've always had a dog growing up. And I've always loved huskies and wolves. So I wanted to get a dog again but I wanted it to be my dog. My mom got me a husky puppy and then I researched a whole bunch and fell in love with the breed even more. Then we got some more after a couple years. Smile

Most of it stemmed from when I was around 8 years old. I was walking around my neighborhood and I saw a husky. Ever since that day I've always wanted now. Now I'm living my dream. Smile

When I was in high school, my step-father brought home a huge, handsome husky that was a stray. My mom who always wanted a Scottie, named him McGregor. He was a great dog. So years later when I bought my first house, a woman that was moving to an apartment had to give up her husky. That is how I got 3 year old Bella in 1991. Bella lived 10 years and a month after she passed I missed the pitter patter of husky paws. So I went to Save-A-Pet and adopted 3- 5 year old Fargo. We had Fargo for 10 years when passed. After several months passed, once again, we missed the pitter patter of husky paws. That is when we adopted Lola. Huskies have been part of my life for a long time now. The inspiration - my life, my husky lifestyle!

My hubby isn't a dog person, I am. I love dogs in general, but collies were my dream dog. Except that they tend to be nippy and I can't have a nippy dog with a husband that is afraid of them in the first place. So I started researching other breeds, patiently waiting for when my hubby would finally agree to let me have a dog. He noticed the last six months or so that I seemed more down (my favorite bird in our flock passed and I just had a really hard time with that) so he agreed to let me get a dog IF we could get a "snow dog" because he loves anything that has to do with snow (he watched Frozen Planet religiously.) So I did my research and we came home with Karli!

My first love for huskies came about around the age of 4 or 5 years old. A neighbor had one, a beautiful grey & white male with icy blue eyes that was unfortunately constantly chained outside in the yard adjacent to ours. At the time, my mother and I had a german shepherd x border collie cross, my childhood dog Zacky. I always wished as a young child that Zacky had the blue eyes like the neighbors dog. I remember being fascinated with the dog next door, and wishing I could take him inside, into my home with me. Around that same age (kindergarten or so) I watched a television program on wolves, and my mother ordered me a small wolf stuffed animal that I remember sharing a unique resemblance to the husky next door. As I grew, so did my passion for dogs. I became very interested in the concept of showing dogs, and fell in love with the Cardigan Welsh Corgi. At the age of 13, after pestering my mother for a dog incessantly, she suggested I contact a breeder and see if I could be a sort of apprentice. That's exactly what I did... I found a semi- local breeder, Lynn Farm Cardigans, a mother and daughter team who graciously took me under their wing and showed me the ropes of the show dog world. Years passed, I went to high school, then college... always patiently waiting for the day I could get a dog of my own. Up until right before I got Maya, I always swore I would get a Cardigan Welsh Corgi. That all changed when I met my friend Dean's dog, Shera, a chow chow x australian shepherd cross. What an amazing dog- so incredibly loyal, sweet, protective, mellow, and yet playful at the same time. I was smitten by her. When I found out she had accidentally gotten pregnant by a grey & white, amber eyed husky male, I made a life changing decision- to take one of the puppies. I flashed back to the husky next door as a young child, and told Dean I'd be giving him a deposit for one of the puppies immediately. I went to see the puppies at three days old, and chose Maya without any hesitation. I fell for her little white feet and white splash on her chest, which made her stand out from the rest of her litter mates. I went to see her several times a week until I was able to take her home. Often we would sit around with the puppies for hours at a time, just socializing and playing guitar. I got to know the other people who were taking puppies from the litter, and even developed friendships with some of them. Although my girl is only half husky, she has many traits of the breed, and people often comment on how she looks like a "chow colored husky". Though it will likely be a few years from now, my second dog will be a purebred husky without a doubt. =)

When i was a kid we only had small dogs.. We had a toy poodle who was terrible!!!! And then we had a mut who is still alive and kickig today at 17 years old.. We also had a polmerian/yorki who passes away last year and i think she was about 13 years old.. But i always wanted a bigger dog.. My mom never let us... Eventually my mutt "king"and my other dog "baby" just decided they werent good in the house, king was house trained but when we got baby he stopped.. So they were kind of outside dogs but not really.. They lived in out huge breeze way... But recenty my brother moved out and i still live at home to get through college and probably even after that a little (my parents love having me home though) i decided to play the card that im gonna be lonely wity brother moving.. And it worked lol! When i was super young i remember movies with huskies in it and i loved how they looked... But after i watched the movie 8 below was when i got real serious about wanting one when i had my own house (never though my mom would let me lol) so thats when i startted doing some research... I dont have one yet (he 2 weeks old still with mommy) i look forwad to a unique personality and a ton of adventure with no dull moments lol!!!

I always loved huskies and they were on my "list" of dogs I would like to own within my life. I started dating my boyfriend and his brother had a husky pup Alpine. I feel in love with her, helped train her, was around her everyday helping take care of her. She was like my dog but wasn't if you know what I mean lol. Then when she was almost 2 we had to put her down due to epilepsy. Hardest decision for the whole family and when we started thinking about getting another dog we said absolutely not a husky... but me loving my huskies the way I do- saw Cally's litter for sale and asked a bunch of questions, went to see the pups at a week old and chose out Cally right that day and gave a deposit while her eyes were still closed. Best decision I ever made, I love her to death. That's my husky inspiration

I grew up with dogs in my house. We always had mutts and were blessed with amazingly good tempered dogs. Fast forward to now, my husband and I have wanted a dog for a long time, but were waiting for the right time. Specifically to sell our house and move into a bigger place. Unfortunately with this crazy housing marketing, that isn't going to happen so we decided to go ahead and not let our house size keep us from finally having our own little puppy. I didn't have a breed of choice, but my husband has been obsessed with Husky's FOREVER! I had major concerns about getting one because I knew from a friend who had them, how much work they can be. But after a lot of talking and thought, I decided that I wanted my husband to have this opportunity. So here we are with our little Qannik who keeps us on our toes every minute of the day. It's been the most challenging, frustrating, sometimes heartbreaking, funloving, silly, and joyful last 9 months. We both smile more than we ever did now that we have him!

Ok, the fact that so many of you consider Snow Dogs a childhood movie makes me feel really old.

Anyways..

I've been fascinated by wolves almost my whole life, but lots of research made me realize a wolf wasn't a pet...movies like White Fang, Balto, Snow Dogs and 8 Below made me start considering northern breeds.

I've almost always had dogs. We got my first when I was about 6 years old. She was a beagle mix (we think). AFter about a year, she got pregnant. Not sure how, I don't remember all the logistics, either she got loose or a stray found her while she was chained outside. Around Christmas time, she had her litter and we kept the runt. Gave the other pups away. I always wondered what happened to those other four...

Based on the fur and coloring of the pup, we (or I) thought the father might have been a husky or husky mix. That pup's personality was amazing. She was so sweet, loving...in essence my dog. She died one summer while I was home from college. A few months later her momma died of what we consider a broken heart.

Fastforward a few years, I'm out of college and my mom's coworker needs to rehome her Samoyed. We take her. She was an amazing dog. So smart, still learned to do new tricks even though I adopted her when she was 5 years old. She became a part of the family, more so than the two I had growing up. I loved burying my hands and face in her fur, her unadulterated love when I came home from work...Everything.

We (my then boyfriend and I) move out here to CO, we bring TAylor with us who at that time is 11 years old. AFter 6 months, she starts having problems, and the beginning of the next year she dies. We're both devastated and hubby (then boyfriend) says we should get a new dog because he didn't want me to be sad. I refused, I couldn't replace her and didn't even want to try.

A year goes by and just before my birthday, hubby shows me an ad in the paper for B&W, blue eyed husky pups. Hubby had always wanted one (I never knew that) and wanted to go check them out. ( I know, newspaper ad...bad, BYB...I didn't know that at the time) We go to see the pups who were about a month old at the time and my heart melted. Demon and Dakota chose us and I was in love.

In short, I've always loved wolf-like dogs, wolves and furry dogs (not hairy)...then D&D came at the right time. Very Happy

Okay, didn't mean to write a book...guess I needed more of a break from work than I thought! lol

We always grew up with dogs in the house. But when I was about 15 my parents got rid of our dog. So we went about 6 years without a dog in the house. I had so much down time that I knew I was ready for a new dog in the family. I always loved huskies because of Balto. When I was a child, I would go to the library and constantly sign out the Balto book. I also owned all the husky movies and would constantly watch them, along with the Lion King, but convincing my parents to get a lion was too far fetch. My dad also grew up with 1/4 husky, 3/4 timber wolves and I was always so intrigued by his and my uncles stories. I finally convinced my parents to let me get a husky. My uncles warned me that he would be a handful and that I probably wouldn't be able to handle it. But that just made me even more determined to prove them wrong. ... and that's why I got Loki.

My dad had always wanted a dog with green eyes, and my grandparents gave our family a green eyed husky/collie mix puppy for Christmas when I was 5. We named her Christy and often called her "Christy Wolf" because my sister and I thought she looked like a wolf. She was an awesome dog, and had many husky tendencies. She "talked" like huskies, and got a wild hair and would run laps around the house like her tail was on fire. She lived until the age of 10 and had become arthritic. She was pitiful when it turned cold. She and 4 of our other dogs were killed by a sick person who threw out meat laced with DDT (a pesticide that was outlawed years ago because of its harmful effects on animals). Apparently this sicko drove around our small town with his dog in the back of his truck, and our dogs would bark at his, which made his dog bark and made him mad. So he chose to kill them. Anyway, long story short, Christy is why I've always wanted my own husky.

My boyfriend had a husky, Sammy, for 13 years until he had to put him down in September 2011. I moved in in November 2011 and we decided to adopt a rescue husky because we both missed Sammy. We adopted Kane in January 2012 and got adopted Halligan last weekend. I guess huskies are kinda like potato chips, you can't have just one (not for long, anyway).
