Forum Rules
1. Here we prefer clarity to agreement. Obviously not everyone is going to agree on a topic; here we prefer to talk out our differences in a respectful manner to ensure mutual understanding and respect.
2. Read the Stickies and Announcements. Each sub-forum may have specific rules which trump the Forum Rules in cases where there may be conflicting information. Read the rules of each board before you post so that you are clear on the expectations of the staff.
3. Respect ALL Staff and Admins. These people volunteer of their time and MUST be respected as well as their word adhered to. They are responsible for maintaining a free, open, clear and organized forum. Anyone found to be openly undermining any official ruling by a staff member will be warned.
4. Signatures: One picture only and no links. Images: To keep the forum looking neat and tidy, we ask that members insert just one picture only in their signatures. The picture should be no more than 200x500 pixels and should be of an appropriate subject, for example, your dogs and their names. Should you need assistance creating an appropriate signature, please PM an Admin and we would be happy to help! This is to ensure that signatures remain a welcome addition to our forum instead of a cumbersome distraction. Links: Hyperlinks in signatures--unless to a personal blog or photo stream of your dogs (like Flckr or Piscasa, for example)--are strictly prohibited. Please PM a staff member with any questions or concerns regarding this rule.

I've used one before. I can't really say how effective it was because I was using it as a preventative measure when Ava and I moved, but she didn't have any issues with being by herself in my apartment. I dunno if the plugin did that, or if she's just that awesome and wasn't bothered by moving Razz

I'm pretty sure that amazon has them cheaper, btw.

Wonder if it will help with a new puppy? I know they get scared and stressed out after leaving mom.

If you're getting the pup see if you can give the breeder an article of your clothing or a blanket to hang out near them till you pick it up. The blanket will pick up the scents of their home and will be reassuring to them. Foster Smith does make a bunch of pet calming stuff and I've heard good things about them though I've never had reason to use them. I think they make feliway for calming cats and you cannot find a book about dealing with stressed cats that doesn't mention it by name.

I have talked to Kathy and she said she will give them their blanket to bring home. I read some reviews on Amazon, they were mixed. I think I'll just wait and see how it does before I spend the money.

Also, whenever I have gotten a puppy in the past i've always slept on floor with them and had an analog clock near by. The ticking from the clock is supposed to soothe them and it's seemed to work every time I've done it plus who doesn't love having a puppy sleep on them?

I have one at my house. I used it a lot when crate training. I would move the crate next to the plug and it seemed to help them calm down a bit. I don't use it anymore, but still have it on hand at the house Smile

One of our private trainers told us about it and recommended it to us.

I gave the breeder a shirt of mine when koda was 4 weeks old and i picked him up at 8.. However i dont know if she actually gave it to him or not but he was fine when he came home.. He still sleeps with my shirt. Even though there is a few more holes in it now

While I've never used a product like that, I have heard from plenty of people who have and the results have been mixed. Plenty of people report that it has worked great, plenty have reported not seeing any benefit to using it. If I ever found myself in a position where I thought it might be beneficial then I wouldn't hesitate to give it a try.
