2. Read the Stickies and Announcements. Each sub-forum may have specific rules which trump the Forum Rules in cases where there may be conflicting information. Read the rules of each board before you post so that you are clear on the expectations of the staff.
3. Respect ALL Staff and Admins. These people volunteer of their time and MUST be respected as well as their word adhered to. They are responsible for maintaining a free, open, clear and organized forum. Anyone found to be openly undermining any official ruling by a staff member will be warned.
4. Signatures: One picture only and no links. Images: To keep the forum looking neat and tidy, we ask that members insert just one picture only in their signatures. The picture should be no more than 200x500 pixels and should be of an appropriate subject, for example, your dogs and their names. Should you need assistance creating an appropriate signature, please PM an Admin and we would be happy to help! This is to ensure that signatures remain a welcome addition to our forum instead of a cumbersome distraction. Hi gals/guys...

I found this few days ago in Lily's tail...
Is this a Hot spot?.... 20130611

is this a hot spot?... Lily has some fleas a couple weeks ago (controlled already I hope) and seems that this is the result of that... I did clean the area, applied anti itching lotion for a couple days and since yesterday Balg Balm (per recommendation of a friend of mine)... area looks dry.

What else I can do?... should I shave the surrounding area?

I will appreciate your expert's help.

thank you
Miko

You are correct, it looks like a hot spot to me.

Please don't shave it! The fur can grow back in an abnormal way and it won't look the same again. It can also expose her skin to the sun and give her a bad sunburn, as it is usually protected by her thick coat.

Keep it as dry as you can. Brush away the dead skin/loose fur so it can breathe. You can put some hydrogen peroxide on it, but only do it once, as it also removes the new cells trying to regrow. Maddie (my foster) actually made her hot spot bleed, so I also put some neosporin on it. As long as they don't lick the medicine off, it's okay to use neosporin. I also added some Vitamin E oil on it to help it heal. And I sprayed some bitter spray so she would stop scratching/biting it.

Her hot spot was gone within 2 days.

great... thanks... she is actually wearing the e-collar, but she try to lick the spot anyways Smile

I'm trying to maintain the area clean all the time... I think that she have the spot for a week or so now.. looks better now.. seems that it is healing very slow...

Is there any vitamin E oil that you recommend?...

thank you for the answer

You're welcome. I just got some at Walmart - it's just the regular vitamin E oil. It will say it on the bottle. Smile
