Forum Rules | 1. Here we prefer clarity to agreement. Obviously not everyone is going to agree on a topic; here we prefer to talk out our differences in a respectful manner to ensure mutual understanding and respect. 2. Read the Stickies and Announcements. Each sub-forum may have specific rules which trump the Forum Rules in cases where there may be conflicting information. Read the rules of each board before you post so that you are clear on the expectations of the staff. 3. Respect ALL Staff and Admins. These people volunteer of their time and MUST be respected as well as their word adhered to. They are responsible for maintaining a free, open, clear and organized forum. Anyone found to be openly undermining any official ruling by a staff member will be warned. 4. Signatures: One picture only and no links. Images: To keep the forum looking neat and tidy, we ask that members insert just one picture only in their signatures. The picture should be no more than 200x500 pixels and should be of an appropriate subject, for example, your dogs and their names. Should you need assistance creating an appropriate signature, please PM an Admin and we would be happy to help! This is to ensure that signatures remain a welcome addition to our forum instead of a cumbersome distraction. Links: Hyperlinks in signatures--unless to a personal blog or photo stream of your dogs (like Flckr or Piscasa, for example)--are strictly prohibited. Please PM a staff member with any questions or concerns regarding this rule. |

| I use T-O-U-C-H as an emergency recall ONLY, hence why I spell it out, that word is NEVER EVER said for fun around Tank, my husky.
How to train "TOUCH": (When saying commands say them loud and with an upbeat attitude.)
I started with a clicker, if your dog doesn't understand the clicker just start by clicking the clicker in their ear and giving them a treat, this will identify a click with a treat.
Next, say your dogs name and "watch me" while pointing to your eyes, when they look at you, click and give treat. (Tank! , watch me!) ... this signals giving their attention to you with a treat.
Next, to begin training "touch" place a treat between your middle and ring finger (almost so your dog has to work to get it out) wave your hand in the air while yelling your dog's name once, try to say it happy like a come on come to me voice. (TANK!) Once your dog looks at you wave your hand where you want you dog to go (this is beneficial if you have to lure your dog away from traffic) ... once your dog makes it to your hand and works to get the treat out grab their scruff and reward them not only with the treat but by verbally saying "GOOD TOUCH!" ...if needed throw the clicker in there... always remind your dog what command they did when praising them.
For about a week practice this 20 times a day (of course with small treats) ... after your dog successfully learns this, review it at least once a day.
Whenever your dog slips out or escapes by doing touch your dog is expecting a treat and come back for it, not that he's coming to you =)
ADVANCED TOUCH: Tank used to run out into the backyard after squirrels as soon as the door opened, although it was fenced in he would repeat this bad habit out the front door at times whenever he saw a cat etc. If you have a fenced in back yard let your dog run wild after the squirrels etc, then do the touch command, when your dog returns grab his scruff, reward them, then say let's get the squirrels and run after the squirrels with them. Of course the squirrel is now gone and safe, but by doing this your dog is signally chasing things as coming to get you first, or asking for your permission first, then going to chase them.
