Should you need assistance creating an appropriate signature, please PM an Admin and we would be happy to help! PostSubject: Nippy puppy   Nippy puppy EmptySat Jun 29, 2013 10:26 am

Have had loki almost 1 week and he is doing good. He is now 14-15 weeks. This morning he sat by back door to go potty. He knows sit to no end and does it immediately on command. He is getting better with his name, come, off, inside, outside, down, and out. Knowing all when I have treats or his food.

However he is pretty nippy as in he will be licking then do nips. This is often when he seems pretty calm too or mildly excited. I yelp when he nips me and that seems to work and then give him bone little while later. So he is getting better with me. He does not nip my male dog at all. My bengal cat can now walk or run by him with no reaction about 50% of time. Where I have issues is with my female dog and other cat. Both like loki it seems. However he will get rough with them. Going from licking to nipping. My female dog wimpers slightly and will walk away. My cat just jumps to high ground. He gets mad at them then and barks at them when they refuse him. He does not really get close to my bengal cat.

Not sure how to best handle. My older pets do not like to be nipped or barked at. Is this when time out should be good? His options for time out would be bathroom, yard since I can watch him from window, or do I use his crate? I never used my current dogs crates for time out. Just curious if any suggestions.

Personally, I'd let them work out among themselves. He really wont learn that the older dogs don't like it if they don't tell him so. He'll get the hint eventually that doing that means playing stops (because your female gets up and walks away.) That should be enough to help him learn. Never ever use the crate for punishment, it should only be associated with good things.

Ok. I will just watch them close. Yeah I though strange to use crate for time out too when I read it some where. Thanks!
