So, my girl (7months) loves my male golden. But she is an "agressive" player and everytime she sees him, she jumps up in his face and bites his ears. Sometimes he likes it and plays rough with her mostly, tho, he is very annoyed and will walk away or just stand there and ignore her. I think she needs a lesson in manners! And I have to protect my boy from her, too. Every time she jumps at him I jerk her leash and say "stop" or something to that effect. Nothing I have done has changed her behavior in any way. What else can I do?? She gets in the "zone" and just doesn't even hear me! Thanks!

Honestly, when that happens with Bode, we usually rely on the other dog "telling him off". Even the sweetest dog will get annoyed enough to give the annoyer a warning growl, yelp or snap. Sometimes, you have to let dog language do it's job.

| Dizzy does this to every dog he meets and will sometimes single one out in the dog park and incessantly bite his or her face and when he gets corrected, will then stand a couple feet away and bark in its face. I will grab him and squat down and hold him against me for a few minutes until he calms down and give him one more chance. If that doesn't work, then back home we go. If he was doing that to another dog in the house and the older dog didn't correct him, I would probably just put him in time out the same way I would if he were biting me.
Edit - sometimes he just gets over a threshold of excitement and needs to be calmed down. It sounds like that's what might be happening with Mishka. She may just need a 10 min timeout with something to destroy or chew on to come down. It also could help if you separate them and play an energy burning game with her for 10-15 min and then let them get back together. The other thing that helps Dizzy is a short training session working on calming signals. I read a great book about calming signals by Turid Rugaas. I've been practicing some of it and it does seem to work to bring him down from his crazy state. |

London does this but she's only 7 weeks old what I do is take them on a long walk together, the moment she knows shes going for a walk she gets into her walk zone, the same with Stryker he'll ignore if she tries anything. Then when I get home they're both tired and just lay out together and if she still wants to play she's a lot less rough. If that doesn't work I'd just let dog language take over and let him tell her off

The thing with my goldenms, tho, is they never correct. They just quietly take it.

Stryker will ignore her on walks but also if she tries to act out I have her on a leash so can hold it out so she can't get to him and correct her. I dunno if this will work for you maybe someone else has an idea

Does she do this with any other dogs aside from your goldens? Kenzi is bad about this too but she's not interested in playing when she jumps on them. She really had a thing about my old male dog. He was the first and really the only dog she has been interested in playing with and she would paw him real hard and then attempt jumping on him. He would take the pawing but the instant she jumped he would put her down and that has actually helped her with other dogs I think. She's dog aggressive (but getting better) and since he put her in her place I think it has jogged something in her head that said, hey, I might get my butt whooped if I just jump anyone that comes by without thinking. If she does this to other dogs the correction they give her might carry over to your goldens if this persists into her later years. At her age though I would think the above mentioned calming would be a good start. _________________

Loki has been doing this to Dom and Lexi. Dom corrected him and he is very cautious around Dom as he doesn't put up with it at all. Lexi puts up with a lot more, but every now then she will correct him. What bothers me more is that he is bitting her legs at times and she is a bit to old to handle that much. Thinking of putting him in doggy daycare 1-2 days a week and seeing if socializing with more dogs will help him.

There is an older husky at the dog park who is very laid back, Buzz is very slow and very slow to anger. Karli used to use him as a shield when she'd had enough of the other dogs picking on her or chasing her (Buzz was safety). One day she decided to get in his face and try to get HIM to chase her. After a few licks, Buzz snapped at her and rightly so. She has never, ever tried that with Buzz again. The goldens will eventually get to the point one day where they're sick of the pup bugging them and put them in their place. In fact, at the dog park, I always tell owners to let their dogs put Karli in her place, its the only way she's going to learn any manners.
