Forum Rules
1. Here we prefer clarity to agreement. Obviously not everyone is going to agree on a topic; here we prefer to talk out our differences in a respectful manner to ensure mutual understanding and respect.
2. Read the Stickies and Announcements. Each sub-forum may have specific rules which trump the Forum Rules in cases where there may be conflicting information. Read the rules of each board before you post so that you are clear on the expectations of the staff.
3. Respect ALL Staff and Admins. These people volunteer of their time and MUST be respected as well as their word adhered to. They are responsible for maintaining a free, open, clear and organized forum. Anyone found to be openly undermining any official ruling by a staff member will be warned.
4. Signatures: One picture only and no links. Images: To keep the forum looking neat and tidy, we ask that members insert just one picture only in their signatures. The picture should be no more than 200x500 pixels and should be of an appropriate subject, for example, your dogs and their names. Should you need assistance creating an appropriate signature, please PM an Admin and we would be happy to help! This is to ensure that signatures remain a welcome addition to our forum instead of a cumbersome distraction. Links: Hyperlinks in signatures--unless to a personal blog or photo stream of your dogs (like Flckr or Piscasa, for example)--are strictly prohibited. Please PM a staff member with any questions or concerns regarding this rule.

PostSubject: What are the things you look for in a vet!?   What are the things you look for in a vet!? EmptyThu Aug 01, 2013 4:52 pm

So I have about 5 different vets offices within a 20 minute drive of my house. I don't want to go with the closest, just because it's closer. Has anyone "interviewed" vets before choosing one? I feel awkward calling up offices and saying "hey, just want to come in and chat despite not having a dog right now." LOL is that allowed?

What would I ask? I definitely would like to do raw diet, so finding someone who supports (or at least isn't a total jerk)

I want to start looking around so that I know exactly where I'm going when I get my pup.

Thanks all!

Someone who's got the heart of a teacher and is happy to explain everything to you when you have questions and also an office staff that is willing to help you over the phone in case of emergencies ect. My vets helped me with both our cat and dog over the phone answering questions and being so helpful and its awesome. When i first got Kiba i had to call them a few times to say "is this normal?" ect..

I would ask around for recommendations, thats how we found ours. Make sure they are knowledgable of the breed, our previous vet was a cat expert.....enough said.
You'll know if they are a good fit. We walked in and within moments knew we were staying with this lady. We have to drive an hour each way, but we genuinly don't care.

Honestly, when I was looking for a new vet when we got Bode, I used Yelp reviews. It didn't fail me, I love our vet.

ohhh good thinking on checking out yelp!

I agree about personal recommendations, except for there are so many vets in our area and everyone "loves" their own. lol no help what-so-ever!

Alternative Therapies are a requirement for me. Otherwise, i can take crappy bedside manner. If the vet knows what they are doing, I could give a crap if they are rude to me. lol
