| Subject: Crab grass killer?? Thu Aug 15, 2013 12:06 pm | |
| We have a yard behind our building for our dogs...a lot in our building.
This morning I went out and there was a guy with a backpack container and one of those hoses attached spraying stuff all over the yard.
I asked him what it was and he said it was to kill the crab grass. I asked him if he knew more details about the stuff and he said that it wasn't toxic.
But to some extent it must be, it is after all designed to kill something.
Unfortunately, he didn't speak very good English and I couldn't get any more info from him.
Any ideas what it likely was? Should we be concerned for the dogs?
I realize that being alive is not good for you health and that we encounter harmful toxins constantly everyday, but it makes it so much more haunting to actually see it administered.
Thanks for your help.

| Generally most of those sprays are safe once they are dry.
When I need to spray weed killer in the backyard I have to wait for a sunny, no rain day and keep Mishka out of the yard for a few hours before I can let him back out. _________________ |

| I can't speak for crab grass killer but when both our dogs were alive, we had an infestation of carpenter ants (I'll save you the horrid details) and Orkin sprayed every room inside the house, around the foundation of the house and around the trees. They said the spray was not harmful to animals and they were right. Both dogs were perfectly fine and the spray did it's job killing the ants. |

| I wouldn't worry as long as your dog isn't eating the grass or walking on the product while it's still wet. We have a spray crab grass killer that we use in our yard, I think it's made by Ortho but I'm not positive. Anyway, we keep the dogs away until it's dry and then make sure they don't eat the grass in the treated areas for a few weeks. _________________ |

| If someone came through and killed the crab grass out of our yard we wouldn't have any grass in our yard. _________________ |

Umm, yeah, I don't think a neighborhood with an HOA is going to work for you. _________________ |
