Winter Coat Blow? Empty

So Bode is definitely starting to fluff out his winter coat! He's getting his fuzzy butt and lion mane back from his summer shed. I know that typically they shed twice a year (give or take), in the spring and fall-ish. Since Bode didn't blow last fall/winter because he was too young, I was wondering what to expect with a winter blow. How does that work? If he's getting fluffier, how will he blow?

Good question! I'm wondering this for Link too. He went from a big fluffy bear to having practically no fur, and now he's starting to get fluffy again although he just blew his coat 2 and a half months ago.

Kenzi was blowing coat when I got her in may and has packed on a lot of hair since then and pretty much started packing it back on as soon as she blew it off. She seems to be starting to shed more than she has most of the summer but I am curious about her second blow as well. Since she needs the under coat to stay warm this winter I was wondering if maybe the second "blow" will be more of a mass shed of guard hairs.

Jack is getting in his winter coat after his forever long summer coat blow! but the winter coat blow for us does not happen till Feb/march. also depends on the winter you have when they will blow the winter coat. they should all be building up there coat at this point unless your in a warm climate.

This mysterious coat blow! I have yet to witness it. A couple months ago, I thought Gus was blowing his coat, but then it just stopped. I think he was losing his hair because he had giardia and just wasn't 100% at the time. It's stopped since then, and he is shedding much less now. And i THINK his coat is getting thicker?? I can't really tell! It doesn't appear to be getting longer though. So much to learn!! Can't wait for our first winter together Razz

Yeah, right now, I'm guessing it's technically the summer coat blow-out. Since, according to my knowledge anyway (I might be wrong), the summer undercoat is not as thick as the winter one, I would say it shouldn't be too bad. Stark shed his winter undercoat this past spring and although it was a little hectic, it wasn't too bad because it was mostly his puppy coat as well.

Next spring when he sheds his winter undercoat from this season, I can definitely seeing myself needing a little therapy... Smile

Yes, Hugo has started to blow his coat for the first time within the last few weeks. Just want to make sure--the undercoat pretty much just falls out, right? I mean grant it, you have to comb it out.. I just want to make sure he's not losing his hair for any other reason than he's blowing his coat.

So fluffy under coat falls out and their hair thins.. then undercoat grows back in, right?

Right. Kenzi starts losing little tufts here and there and after a while the tufts turn to handfuls of fluffy hair every time you rake your fingers through. She looked so ratty when she was blowing coat but one they start putting the undercoat back on they look so nice.
