1. Here we prefer clarity to agreement. Obviously not everyone is going to agree on a topic; here we prefer to talk out our differences in a respectful manner to ensure mutual understanding and respect.
2. Read the Stickies and Announcements. Each sub-forum may have specific rules which trump the Forum Rules in cases where there may be conflicting information. Read the rules of each board before you post so that you are clear on the expectations of the staff.
3. Respect ALL Staff and Admins. These people volunteer of their time and MUST be respected as well as their word adhered to. They are responsible for maintaining a free, open, clear and organized forum. Anyone found to be openly undermining any official ruling by a staff member will be warned.
4. Signatures: One picture only and no links. Images: To keep the forum looking neat and tidy, we ask that members insert just one picture only in their signatures. The picture should be no more than 200x500 pixels and should be of an appropriate subject, for example, your dogs and their names. Should you need assistance creating an appropriate signature, please PM an Admin and we would be happy to help! This is to ensure that signatures remain a welcome addition to our forum instead of a cumbersome distraction. Links: Hyperlinks in signatures--unless to a personal blog or photo stream of your dogs (like Flckr or Piscasa, for example)--are strictly prohibited. Please PM a staff member with any questions or concerns regarding this rule.

Hello everyone! I've got a 5 month old puppy who has become my new best friend very quickly. My girlfriend and I got her at 10 weeks and she has become very attached to us. Training and tricks have been coming along great and I owe a lot to this forum. Now that we are focusing on behavior issues, I decided to sign up for tips/advice from experienced owners as well as provide input for others. I've quickly learned that Huskies are a challenge but the reward is very much worth it.

Hi Scott. I have a 6 month old, had him about 2 1/2 weeks now. It's crazy how quickly they become such heart grabbers. Tokai is my 5th dog, and I am absolutely bonkers about my little guy. If you can get your girl to lie down, let me know. Tokai is being quite stubborn about "down". Welcome to the forum

Hi Lisa, as with most puppies, mine has been food (treat) driven so she often follows my hand to the floor when I say down. In the beginning, I've found that sitting on the floor (getting to her level) makes things more inviting. At first, she would follow my hand down to the floor with the treat in it but now I can stand up and keep the treat in the other hand. Another small recommendation from something funny I learned from pet store trainers is that dogs on hard floors (tile, wood) will often lay down because their hind legs slip out from underneath them while sitting. Therefore, you could try "down" in your kitchen at first and then transition to carpet. How is he with people? Ellie still has her reservations about strangers when it comes to petting. She almost acts like my guard dog but mostly just wants everyone to play with her.

Getting better with down. Gonna be a challenge, but he actually did a half down yesterday. That counts right? Tokai hasn't really shown any hesitation with people, or other dogs. Like Ellie, he seems to think everyone is a new playmate. Smile
