PostSubject: Moving & Separating Two Huskies... SUGGESTIONS PLEASE!!    huskies - Moving & Separating Two Huskies... SUGGESTIONS PLEASE!! EmptySun Jan 26, 2014 6:32 pm

My ex-boyfriend and I have two huskies. Roxy is 2 and Kota is 1. Kota has been with Roxy since day 1 and they get along great. They live in NY and I moved to FL for a job. It is not working out as planned for him to move down with the two dogs and therefore we are going to bring Kota down to FL and Roxy is going to stay up in NY with my ex.

I see a ton of huskies down here and I really am not concerned with the transition to a new climate but I am concerned with separating the two dogs. Has anyone had this experience before?
I am looking for any advice, suggestions and tips in regards to splitting the two dogs up as well as having a smooth transition for Kota.

Any suggestions would be appreciated Smile

Sorry this is happening, is there no way to keep them together, either with u or the ex? I would think their reaction would be the same as if one of them passed and they will both become depressed. That is just my thought though, someone might have delt with this in the passed and can offer up suggestions. If you think of it in a way as if u were married and had 2 kids you would never send one kid with one parent and the other with the other.

Will you be home all the time? If not and you cannot keep them together, then maybe try looking for a daycare in the short term so he gets lots of dog interaction still.

No I will not be home all the time, weekends and nights I will. I work in a school so I don't have long hours and I am home usually by 4-430. I will definitely be keeping her active and doing fun things as I always have had with her, especially the dog park. That is a good idea taking her to day care during the day here and there so that she can get used to the transition. Thanks!! Smile

I've been through this, worse yet- with Litter mates! Both boys have turned out fine though, (they're now four.) Anyways, just treat Kota as a new dog. When you get her, exercise her a lot and introduce her to the house slowly. I agree with Jessica about daycare, that;s a great idea Smile But anyway, get Kota into a routine right away and stick to it! She might be sad for a little bit, but she WILL move on. Everyone does Wink lol Good luck!
