PostSubject: Husky does not talk?   Husky does not talk? EmptyFri Oct 24, 2014 12:03 pm

I had read lots of stories from people who say how vocal their dogs are. Gaia doesn't seem to be very vocal. She whines when we put her in the sunroom when it's bedtime, and every once in awhile she will give a sharp, high pitched bark when she's excited, but I've never heard the "woo woo", talking, or howling. Do huskies branch out with their vocalizations as they get older, or did I just get a quiet one? Lol. I don't mind either way, I just found it odd considering how many people say that huskies like to talk a lot.

My first husky was quite a talker - but ONLY if we were in a "conversation". I usually had to initiate but she more than held her own.

Ami did not talk hardly at all when we first got him. He would give a low, growly, brief woo-woo when we would approach him on his tether, in his crate but that was it. I tried and tried to get him to talk (neighbors must have thought I was one batty old lady Laughing ) Then, in a hotel room at 11:30 at night last May, he found his full husky voice Husky does not talk? 1625187496 He still does not talk a lot but always when we come to see him first thing in the morning, whenever he's in the house and my husband comes to see him. Or when my son comes over. Or Archer comes to play. It's always in a greeting. Unless it's late at night in a hotel room Rolling Eyes

Haha that's great. I bet the people in your adjoining rooms were none too pleased with those developments. xD

I tried to initiate a "conversation" with her the other day, but she didn't really respond. Who knows, maybe she'll find her voice at an inopportune time too. Razz

Gaia sounds a lot like Ghost. We can get her to talk some, but it's never really the woo woo only the sharp bark. Shadow was a talker though, and we'd get conversations going with her quite often. Gaia may get more talkative as she gets older though Smile

Christina, I would give her more time. My sibe was very quiet when we first got him and it was several months later that he was really comfortable being vocal with us and now he won't shut up. Razz

Yeah, Diz was more of a barker at that age, but woos now when he gets really excited. He doesn't do it at home a lot, but will do it on walks, or when we go to or pick him up from daycare, at the vet (he LOVES going to the vet), or whatever. He talked a ton as a little puppy, then went through a silent/bark only phase, and since turning a year has started to talk more.

Good to know haha. I'm sure it will be like with my little brother. He didn't talk until he was around 3, but once he started, he never stopped. xD

When we first got Hanzo at around 8 weeks, he didn't talk all that much. But as he got older, he started talking more. Most of the time it's just a high pitch bark, but sometimes when we are putting tuna in his puppy food, he will howl for us, or when we are howling at him to try and get him to talk. When sirens pass by, like cops or fire truck or something. He will shop what he is doing and look around. Not saying anything, but our mutt, that never used to talk, would start doing a bark and howl mixture. It is so cute. So wait a little bit.

I've only recently got my girl and she's pretty quiet. she'll only talk to me 1. in the morning and she's super excited to be free from the crate and to see me lol 2. It's breakfast time, feed me! 3. she wants something, to do/go somewhere she'll tell me. Other than that only small whines here and there. My german shepherd is way more vocal XD go figure

I only like the howling growl.

the rest are too high pitched and i kinda discourage it at times. if it's constant.

usually when excited.
I also don't like being barked at.
I know how negative this all sounds.

Kohdi is extremely vocal (I think he was already talking on the way out of his mom, haha) the breeder sent me a video of him having a conversation with her before I pickd him up, its SO cute...and at the end, he does something that makes everybody just go "awwwwww" and that he still does to this day...its when hes really excited, he gets to talking and then his voice disappears but he's still going even though nothings coming out anymore. He is definitly a talker...has conversations with me all the time, tells people "good morning" on our morning walks etc...Mishka on the other hand is super quiet...and I never heard a sound from her til about 6 months old, thats when I heard her talk for the first time. She's still REALLY quit though.

My last two huskies were similar...Anuschka was pretty vocal but mostly like when she heard sirens and stuff like that...Malukhai was very quiet but DID talk, mostly talking back to me when he was in trouble, haha, but he picked upon Anuschka's siren thing too and it was really quite beautiful when they would "sing" together, Malukhai would actually go looking for Anuschka when he would start hearing a siren just so they could sing together.

When Rambo is eating, Hanzo will go over there and just bark at him, like "hey, come play with me!" And Charlie said "What is this? I didn't get a Chihuahua!" But that is the only reason he will bark like that.

Marlee doesn't talk often either , she is almost 4 and all I can get out of her is a single, loud bark when she wants something and I'm not paying attention to her, it happens maybe once or twice a day, but sometimes she can go a week without making a sound, other than playful growls while playing with my other dog. But I can always tell when she is going to bark because she gets her face as close as she can and wags her tail first loll
