Kylah is almost 9 months and I'd like to start running with her soon. Any advice on how to get started with training her? Equipment required?

First off there are many believers here that say to wait til atleast a year before start to run your dog on hard ground. You can search that topic to get more info on that but to answer your other question You can run a dog just carrying a leash. A lot depends on how well the dog walks. If they stay by your side then you can go leash on collar but if they are a puller you'll need a harness. To reduce the pulling you can choose a easy walk harness which connects at the chest of the dog. To allow pulling you can use a regular harness. As a runner of my dog I swear by alpineoutfitters mushers belt (I think that's the one I got) and leash with bungee and traffic handle. Teaching your dog left and right is useful. Leave it, stop, mush (faster), etc are good to teach. Start small and work your way up distance and speed wise. Watch out with heat huskies will get "sled head" where they care more about the activity than their own health and will run themselves dehydrated and overheated. Hope this helps if you have any other questions just ask hopefully I can help.

I think it kind of depends if you're currently a runner or not. What is your level of fitness? If you are pretty fit and generally do your runs without taking walk breaks, you'll want to hold off on running with her until she's older. Now you can do short jogs on soft surfaces (grass, dirt, etc.) and work on some of the commands for passing by things and the other ones Ben mentioned. I have a hiking belt from Nordkyn outfitters that I love. I use it on walks too so I can keep my hands nice and warm in my pockets.

I too am brand new to running, so it will be a learning experience for both of us! For a dog that likes to pull I need a harness that attaches at the chest? All that means is that the leash hooks on to the chest right?

Yes it'll hook on to his/her chest. I have a easy walk harness that I use for it. Generally I use a regular harness since I have been running for a while so that way he can pull and speed me up a bit and get the excerise he needs and likes. As a beginner... Runner and dog runner remember to take things easy at the beginning. Feel free to ask any questions I remember when I was first getting into running (never did track or cross country or anything) I couldn't believe the technology that can be used and the amount of information you can find on running.
