Are we progress too fast, as we bikejoking almost 3 days a week, 2 miles each session? He seems really flat out these days and lost a bit appetite. Thank you all
Well first how hot is it when you're biking? Maybe earlier/later times would help if its hot at the moment, I won't bike mine in temps over 60 degrees fahrenheit.
But if its not the heat affecting him, I would say maybe cut back to 2 days a week, although honestly that doesn't seem like too much as I started my guy about 2-3 miles 3-4x a week and it seemed a good starting point for him.

Hi Megan:
That's tricky as we just hit the border line of 60F ( 16 celsius). XP Sounds like he needs to cut back a bit and spacing the gaps a bit further.

My Cascade Sled Dog Club recommends to NOT bikejor the pups in weather any warmer than 50F. I usually push the envelope and bike them when it is as warm as 65F, but not any hotter. And yes, we always aim to bike in the morning or evening, before/as the sun rises and after/as it sets. Running in the sun makes the temperature beat down on the dogs as they run, and even when the air is cold, the sun can make them really hot, specially the darker colored dogs with black or brown fur It just absorbs the heat and sun.

Hi Erica,
Unfortunately, there aren't many soft ground for us to run. (Really want to join your trail, what a peaceful place) Majority we would be run on cycle path (hard surface), so we just have the Musher's Secret which is highly recommended from here. But do we need a booties? and would the dew claws be an issues?

Da Dum.... Just received this morning, surely both of us has been woke up by the postman After an incident that happened to us a week before neither the rider- me nor the runner- Charcoal's fault, we decided to give this a go and can't wait to try this out. So exciting! " />

Hi, I have never done bikejoring or anything like it. I have a 5 month old Brittany Spaniel who has unlimited energy that I think might be great for bikejoring? Can someone tell me what is the first step in succeeding in bikejoring? I have seen a few videos on teaching left and right signals as well as stop ans so forth but was also hoping to find a mentor in or near Des Moines Iowa. I have always learned far better with a hands on class than one given over video.

welcome, your Brittany Spaniel is to young to start biking with you, its best to let them grow to a yr old. you can start training the commands now while you are out walking to prep him for when he is old enough. do some google searches for videos or look into some northern breed clubs in your area that do sledding or scooters and talk with them

Welcome! As said above, she is a bit too young at the moment. But you can definitely train commands. As for finding a mentor, theres a group called 'Heartland Mushers' starting up.. my friend who is the creator knows a ton of dog people all over facebook, most of which are mushing peeps, and we can see if we can find someone in your area to help! I personally do demos in Ohio but I'm just a tad far haha!
