Below is a link to a Yahoo article about home owners insurance and aggressive breeds......I cannot believe Huskies are up there with the 12 most aggressive breeds.

I never really looked into much before but it appears huskies have accounted for about 4% of fatal attacks since 2005. I am sure most of those dogs were probably not properly exercised or cared for.

I would almost guess that Husky bites might have been accidental. I have to remind my grand kids to watch how they play when they are around Maya, wild swinging arms and running can be misinterpreted as wrestle play, not a big deal with a larger adult but a small child is easily knocked down and the crying and screaming that follows stills sounds to the dog like play or fight talk. Not mean, but causing damage just the same, and people who do not know dogs or Husky behavior consider it an unprovoked attack.
The other one that always gets me is the Doberman and Rottweiler being on the list. I have yet to come across a Rott that had a bad temper, most have been big luv muffin's. I new someone years ago who's mom raised Dobe's, I always thought they were brain damaged, a goofy stupid breed seemed to me to describe them better, even when they would show them on television as mean junk yard dogs I couldn't understand how they got them to act that way.
I think one more thing to understand might be that insurance companies probably only look at data, meaning if a dog breed contact with a person ended up as a claim that dog goes in the "high risk" column, not that the dog is mean, but it's actions have caused injury, an example, true story too. I had a friend who owned a black lab. When you came to the house if the owner was next door at grandpa's the lab would take your hand in it's mouth and lead you next door, he would "retrieve you" so to speak. Now if you didn't know the dog and quickly pulled your hand from his mouth it could tear the skin and in effect the dog bit you even though that was not it's intention. Also, work with your agents to make it clear in there mind that your dog is not a danger in the vicious terms of a danger, maybe a goof that might hurt someone on accident but not intentionally mean.
Been going on so long I forgot what started this LOL.

I have lots of comments about the 11 deaths in nine years by a Husky, I'm sure it's far less than stupid cell phones used while driving, in one year. Needless to say the loss the someone's life is truly tragic, Eleven people killed by a Husky is still eleven people too many.

The stats bout a husky are off though.. If a person sees a wolf dog hybrid, or any dog that looks anytbi like a wolf. People are going to say it was a husky that attacked me, cause its the most known out of dogs that look like wolves.

Stats about ANY dog breed are pretty much fabricated. Insurance companies pull their data from national bite statistics as reported to law enforcement. Law enforcement is not trained to identify specific breeds of dogs and/or mixes, so they often assume a dog is a certain breed without full knowledge, so breeds are often misidentified and therefore misreported. Therefore, the data is bogus, but insurance companies still rely on it to discriminate against certain breeds of dogs and, in my opinion, also their owners.

If you're looking for more information about this issue, I highly recommend the documentary "Beyond the Myth." It's a relatively new film (came out a few years ago) and focuses mostly on pit bulls and bully breeds, but it really applies to all breeds, especially the ones on most "banned-breed" lists.

This is bs, just like all the apartment complexes banning huskies for being to aggressive.

This is just a statement about statistics:

There are liars, damn liars and statisticians........

I took a stats class is college. You can skew any set of numbers to make it show what you want or represent.........Sadly, you ask for the formula on how these idiots come up with their numbers, so you can understand how it was figured. You get shut down....I got in major trouble at my job because I questioned how the number was figured.....OOPS!!!!

You know, I can't speak for Huskies as I am brand new to the breed. But I will say this: I run several thousand miles a year and, thus, come in close contact with pretty much every breed one can think of. These encounters are usually never a problem. I run by 125 lbs. German Shepherds without even flinching. Sure, some of the little dogs are yappy, but they cower as soon as you get close to them. However(!), pit bulls are a problem almost every single time. I know that "pit bull" is a blanket term and the one I most come into contact with is the American terrier, but even after crossing the street I watch owners struggle to hold on to their leash. Yes, this is purely anecdotal and I will be sure to watch the documentary cited above, but all of my experience really does have me believing there is something more to this than "it's the owners fault".

So I can't say that I am exactly upset that insurance companies have such a list and, in many ways, I can actually understand their reasoning. Thankfully our insurance only cared if Loki was one of the breeds categorized as a pit bull.
