| Hi All I've been awol for a while now so I hope you are all well. I was just wondering when your huskies calmed down age wise? I was always told by Orion's breeder that they come into themselves at about 5 or so. Thing is Orion is only 2.5years and in the last 6 months he has just really chilled it is kind of weird. He is really calm, very very quiet (he will go days without making a sound) and just kind of isn't as goofy if that makes sense. He used to be so bouncy and silly and even sleeping he was always upside down or twisted round but now he is kind of somber. Don't get me wrong it is wonderful to be able to take him places and he is so nonplussed about everything but I just wasn't expecting this level of decorum from him at this age. I still do a lot of things with him training wise and I use play a lot as a reward especially in the likes of agility, he still loves training and enthusiastically plays games with me, he interacts brilliantly with other dogs with lots of energy etc it is just in his down time at home that he has quietened down. It sounds weird but I miss the zoomies and manic naughtiness lol Should I be worried he has changed so much or should I just count my blessings? |

| Count your blessings I have had periods of time where I've thought the same thing about Ami...then comes a night like last night where I had a woo-wooing, bouncing, playbowing boy at the foot of my bed. At 4 AM I suspect your training is really paying off and is giving him lots of stimulation, physically as well as mentally and he has no need to discharge. Just my thoughts... |

| I used to think it was age 2 that huskies calm down more, until my last boy Malukhai came along, don't get me wrong, he was probably the most behaved husky I've ever had, however he seemed to remain in "puppy mode" til he hit the age of 5, unfortunately he passed away then too, but I noticed (he lived to age 5 1/2) that he all of a sudden grew up, even in his appearance, right at the age of 5. Anuschka, the same thing, at age 5 is when I got her Malukhai and although she still played and all that stuff, she kinda matured into a little mother for Malukhai, instincts leading her way too.
With my current two, Kohdi is 2 1/2 now, he has always been a chill husky, almost too laid back, lol, and he has seemed to grown up already, but the slightest thing can kick that "puppy mode" into high gear so I don't think he's there yet. To be perfectly honest, I don't want him there yet. They both can and do frustrate me sometimes, but they're also the sweetest most lovable dogs ever, I like that combination. Their life is too short as it is to be an "adult" the entire time. |
