Hi! My name is Amy, and my family & I have been Husky owners for a whole week now. Lol

Let me be honest. I have never in my life owned a big dog. Right now we have a standard sized Pomeranian/chihuahua, who's 3 years old. We have been thinking about getting another dog for a couple of months now. I am a distance runner and I really wanted a dog capable of accompanying me on my morning runs. Soon enough one of my co-workers knew someone that needed to get rid of their new husky pup because their other two dogs weren't accepting her.

Hello from Dallas! Emma210

Everyone meet Emma! So far it's been great. She's 10 weeks old. I was told she was purebred, but she just seems so small to me! What do y'all think? Although the only thing that I have to compare her to is my sisters German Shepherd, who is also around the same age but is considerably bigger. Not that it matters. We love her all the same Very Happy

She's great on a leash already, and she LOVES the water! She's jumped in the bath with my 2 year old twice now lol! and she loves when we get the hose out. We're going to try and take her to the lake at some point before summer is over.

Another quick question - I realize Husky's have a strong instinct to "hunt" and my neighbor mentioned something about her turning on Benny, our smaller dog, when shes older. This seems a big ridiculous to me, especially with them growing up together and them both being well socialized. Is there any truth to this?

Thanks for reading and I look forward to getting to know everyone!

Your pup is cute as a button I love you if she is not purebred, I would eat my hat! Keep in mind, a Siberian is a medium sized breed. An adult female is about 35 to 50 pond, give or take, if I remember correctly.

As for your other dog... they should be fine. Another member here has a Chihuahua, too and Ami plays very nicely with the shrimp dog across the street...a miniature Doberman.

Welcome!

Contrary to the misconception, Siberian Husky's aren't really big dogs ... Your sister GSD should end up being a good 6 - 8 inches (possibly more) taller than the Husky. (( of course some people think a Spaniel is a big dog ... go figger ))

Your Chi, being an adult, will put Emma in her place when she gets too rough (and she probably will) but, given that, it shouldn't take more than a few days before they're playing together nicely most of the time. Remember though, Husky's play rough so Emma's going to have to make her behave before she gets to big. (Which should be fun and scary)

What a cutie! Congratulations!

As the others have said, they will do fine. Dogs have an intricate system of communication. It's so cool to watch them interact. (Story time) I had a party at my house the other day and two couples brought their dogs (one has a beagle 12 weeks old and one a boxer mix thats three). If Koda even slightly started playing rough with the beagle, the boxer made sure she knew that wasn't going to be allowed. The main thing I would say is don't overly protect them. It will do you well in the long run to just let them work it out.  lol!

Welcome to the forum! I look forward to seeing more of Emma and getting to know you!
