| Hey guys, got my pup rockie from a breeder in CT. Brought him to the vet for the standard check up and everything seems to be fine. The doc says that he may be anemic and has low protein intake even though i fed him orijen for the past week. He is below weight at 21.2lbs. I saw a 5 month husky today that was around 35lbs and the owner said he was on raw food. im worried my pup is too small so i got him on the raw food diet now (stella and chewies goose). Here is a pic of him and you guys tell me what you think. THe vet says he will be around 50lbs.

| I see no pic....do you have a link?????? People misunderstand huskies. They are a medium sized breed, and max male breed standard weight for a husky is 55 pounds. How old is Rockie? Also we do have a sticky or thread called the "weigh in" where a lot of the members chime in and give age and weight so you can make comparisons. This will help you too. Also asking your breeder for weight of his mom and dad will give you a better idea on how big he will be at adulthood. Welcome to the forums, hope that helps a little. |

Welcome to the forums, hope that helps a little. Hey thanks for the reply. just fixed the link, should be up his parents were around 45-55lbs i believe the breeder said. Rockie is about 17 weeks old. just weighed him in after eating at 22.6 lbs tonight. I would like him to be around 50lbs or higher of course, but anything is fine. I had been feeding him around 1.5cups of dry food these past days ive had him and hes had alot of exercise, so i may have been under feeding him. I checked that weigh in post as well so he seems to be about average, considering i think he was underfed when the breeder had him and when i started feeding him up until today |

| dependent on what food you are feeding, if you are still feeding Orijen, which is an excellent food, go up 1/8 cup at a time. 1.5 cups a day is not a lot for a puppy. My adult girl eats between 1-2 cups per day, and she is larger than breed standard. Rule of thumb is to back off if pudding poop, lol, so increasing a little every day is fine. I would guess somewhere around 2-2.5 cups a day should be sufficient. How much raw are you feeding along with the 1.5 cups of food?
The growing slow is completely safe, in fact keeping a dog on the lean side reduces many possible issues down the road. So as long as he is energetic, growing nicely, I wouldn't worry so much. Feeding raw in conjunction with Orijen is an excellent way to increase his protein levels and gain weight, you just do not want him growing too fast. Btw, 35 pounds at 5 months is not huge, I think pretty ok as well, it really depends on the pedigree of the dog. Some grow slow, some fast. Growth spurts happen at around 3-5 months then again at around 8 months, and again at a year. Past one year and there is weight gain, with filling out.
Just to let you know, I still see no pic. |

Just to let you know, I still see no pic. Hey fixed pic again! And I'm on natural balance now; Gonna do half a cup per meal (dry) and .5 patty (raw) per meal at 2 times a day. |

| O.M.G. He is perfect.....he is gorgeous, love his dirty face and blue eyes. I think he looks fine size wise. The feeding plan sounds good, if you think he needs more, and that may be possible, I would go 3/4 cup 2 times a day and see how he does with that. I can not wait to see more pics..... |
