Hi everyone! So far I am very much enjoying the wealth of information I have found on this forum. Just last week I picked up my first puppy. He's 10 weeks old and 5.4 lbs...I have compared his weight to other members who have posted about their puppies at similar ages and he seems to be very underweight. He looks very healthy and seems so be adjusting well. He eats usually 3 times a day, but sometimes doesnt finish all of his food.

He seems a little on the small side but it shouldn't be a huge concern unless he is not eating. Based on what what I've been told by people on the forum and by my breeder, puppy weight is very variable depending on litter size, time of weaning and genetics. My little girl is a little under 7 lbs at 8 weeks. She doesn't finish all her food either. I attribute it to stress from being removed from Mom and litter mates. I had to switch her to a raw diet because the didn't seem very interested in kibble.

I'd give him a couple more weeks to see if he puts on some weight. If he has trouble gaining you may need to take him to the vet to rule out worms or some other parasite preventing him from absorbing all nutrients.
