I have a 12 week old male husky pup and he recently just started ring aggressive. When I try to correct him or take his toys or feed him he growls and bites and it's not playful. I have only had him for about a week and a half and will be putting him in puppy obedience class next week but I'm not sure if that will help. Any advice?!

Hi there.

For the toy aggression, I would recommend you show him the 'leave it' or 'drop it' command first. That way, when he drop the toy, you can give him a treat instead and pick up the toy at the same time. That way he learns that you taking the toys from him is a good thing and you can initiate more play with him that way.

As far as the food aggression goes, I would recommend you hand feed him his kibble (if you feed him kibble, anyways). It may take a little while and be a bit tedious, but hopefully he can learn that your hand near the food isn't a bad thing either.

I'm sure that there are other methods maybe some other members can help out, with your situation.

I didn't hear back from Frankie, but I do recommend at least trying it. My girl was so terrible at so many things, she literally mad me cry on numerous occasions because I didn't think she would ever be a good dog. I'm happy I stuck it out and we got through it, she's a great dog now.

I agree with Rocio on redirecting with the toy issue. Lastly stepping away from him when he is throwing a tantrum will do wonders, for you and your dog. Sometimes you have to let them cry it out so to speak. Patience of a saint, repetition, and consistency are some valuable things to use when dealing with a husky puppy.

Also wanted to mention the thread Puppy Biting under training, it's 6 pages long but a ton of advice.

My 5 year old, male, Siberian husky has been overly rough and slightly aggressive at the dog park lately but tends to only be towards puppies or smaller dogs. He's not listening when I try to intervene and the owners of the other dogs are understandably getting nervous. Any suggestion or advice?! Thanks!

This question only needs to be in one thread and preferably the one closest to its actual topic. I am going to remove it from the fencing thread since you didn't indicate this to be an issue with escaping.

That aside, what exactly is your husky doing? Playing rough isn't truly aggression. Huskies naturally play rough and can get over excited which can manifest itself into horrible growling noises akin to listening to a grizzly bear and some serious pulling of collars or scruff skin. If this happens your best bet is to remove the dog from what is getting him too excited and make him sit and wait until he calms down, then let him go back to playing. If he isn't listening then he may not be ready for the whole run of the dog park. Trying out doggy daycare where the play area is smaller and there are people experienced with keeping the peace might do him some good. Has he had any obedience work? How long has he been going to the park? What has his previous experience with dogs looked like?

My addition......if you have had him since he was a puppy, he is fixed, and has never had issues before, and have always took him to the dog park, I would get a complete health check at the vet. Sometimes an injury will appear aggressive, or if he is not feeling well may appear to be aggressive.
