Carpet Chewing Empty
PostSubject: Carpet Chewing   Carpet Chewing EmptyFri Feb 09, 2018 11:10 pm

Tetra hadn't chewed on the carpet since the second week we had her. Yesterday, she decided that she likes chewing on carpet again and has been trying to chew on it all day. We tried the bitter yuck spray the first time she started chewing and it didn't phase her. We scold, we give her other toys to chew on, but to no avail. I just don't understand why she's suddenly interested in chewing on the carpet again when she hasn't tried for over a month to chew on it. Any ideas on how we can put an end to this for good?

Is she obsessing a certain spot? Or just grabbing at it wherever she happens to be? Definitely don't let her in there without supervision and just keep at it. Some dogs become ocd about some stuff. My female licks the floor. She will lick blankets until they are soaked. Much is boredom I think. I have gone as far as putting something over a spot of obsession so she can't even get to it.

She'll go after any spot that she can get to and pull at. Doesn't matter where it is, new place or old place, if she can pull at it, she'll chew and tear it up. It's always around the outer perimeter of the carpet.

I would block her from that room when you can't be in there with her and when you are in there tie her to you so you can correct her every time she tries for the carpet. Breaking an obsession is not easy or fast. Some animals, usually cats but some dogs too, dislike citrus so getting citrus spray and spraying the edges might give a little deterrent.

Okay thank you! I'll try citrus spray as well and hope that will deter her!
