I'm vary upset to say Chugach passed away last night from cardiac arrest. He was only 5 years old.

I wasn't there, and no one knows when it happened, but he ate corn cobs from the trash. It led to a roller coaster of his health going up and down hill and multiple emergency vet visits. It wasn't until after exploratory surgery that a piece of corn cob was found in his small intestine. This was after he had thrown up a corn cob piece a week prior. He developed Pneumonia and sepsis. He seemed to finally be getting better when his heart stopped and the vets could not resuscitate him. This was all shortly after he had just survived a venomous snake bite.

He was my parent's husky but I was there when he was picked up from the airport and I held him in the car on the way home. I helped raise him during his first year.

His favorite thing was to catch balls and push toys under the couch and bark until someone got it for him.

There's no real way to say I'm so sorry.  Dogs will get into the weirdest things ... Like @liv_sky said, you learn to live with missing them and I've had a couple I still look for ...

I hate to hear this! Poor baby. Huskies can definately be a handful. I hate to hear about your loss. Losing a pet is never easy. Me and Bunny send virtual hugs

i worry about spider doing the same thing. We lost our ridgeback to eating a ribbon that caused a stroke and a heart attack also after a roller-coaster of getting better then worse.

Chugach was especially bad about getting into anything food related. When he was a puppy he chewed threw the plastic of the container holding his food and gorged himself. He was found crying on the floor because his stomach was so full .

It's frustrating that this was a known issue. I know their kitchen trashcan is kept in a separate room behind a closed door, but it's still a small enough trashcan that's dog accessible and it's not locked. He must have nosed his way in there at some point.

It's a sad reminder that I need to be diligent about trash and anything my own dogs might eat.

I know what you mean, the morning i lost Skye I let her out of her run and then the post man left the gate open that’s when she wondered of and got shot, I always think back only if I left her in the run she wouldn’t of got out. But there is always if and buts, but it don’t change any thing and sometimes whats meant to be will be

That's awful. I'm sorry that happened. I know what ifs won't change anything. All I can do is make sure the same thing doesn't happen again.

What really scares me about spider is we have had vet emergencies for things that really shouldnt have bothered her. The last one was a raw meaty bison rib. But yes we ritually put the trash up on the counter at night and make sure all food is up in cabinets. Even then we had the thc incident, the unripe tomato incident, the chicken head incident and last night i was dumping beef and barley soup and she intercepted it while i was pouring it into the trash (that was a first). Try as i might, i cant prevent everything.

Its a sad lesson and im so sorry about what happened
