| Howdy y'all! I'm new here on this site. We just took in a stray husky about 3 months ago and are still trying to manage the demanding aspects of husky puppy ownership!! Hucklebearie's about 70 lbs (although he may be heavier since last weigh-in), the vet pegged him at around 1 yr old, he is now neutered, he is very energetic and enthusiastic, and he is very friendly and just wants to play! We have tried play dates with various neighbor dogs, but our guy always overwhelms the other dog! There's not a mean bone in his body, but like I said, he is quite eager!! I'm looking to see if anyone on this site lives near Tyler and wants to meet up at the Bossart dog park sometime for some husky games!? We would esp. like to meet during the week, although weekends would probably work too. I know it's getting darn hot and humid now - yuck!! - but maybe just a short playtime or in the early evening or something? We have two other dogs, but they are not huskies and are 9 and 10 yrs old, and their new brother is a bit much for them too! (BTW, Hi Cheyanne, if you're reading this!!! Thank you for suggesting this forum! And I love your cute cuddly photo!!)

| Welcome from the Great State!! I'm in Texas but not really close ... well, not really anywhere even remotely close, I'm over in WEST Texas near the Big Bend. 'Course you're always welcome to drop by if you have the time ( it'd only be a 10 hour drive or so ... one way! ) Have you done DNA on him yet? 70# is heavy for a relatively pure Husky ... though your avatar like a pretty pure Husky. I have two, an Alaskan and a Siberian both of whom weigh in at about 55. https://c.tenor.com/8lOzgGU91yUAAAAC/texas-flag.gif _________________ “Properly trained, a man can be dog’s best friend.” Corey Ford . |

| Hi there aljones! Thanks for the reply! Sorry you're not exactly close by... My hubby grew up in West TX, but he's very happy to be in beautiful, lush green East TX now! We haven't had him DNA checked - that could be fun! I know he's much bigger (and growing still!!) than the typical husky, but yes, he looks (and acts) very husky, so who knows...!? Some say mal, but he doesn't really look mal to me - maybe a mix of some sort? He's big and beautiful! |

| EAST Texas - humidity, mosquitos, hurricanes, people. WEST Texas - dry, no bugs just coyotes, wind!!!, getting to have too many people! All things considered, I'll take the coyotes ... the constant wind here is a PITA but a lot more tolerable than when mother nature decides to bundle it all up and delivery it at one time! He looks so much like the first Husky I had that I had to look twice. Have fun, they're a riot as their personalities come out and at three months he's still going to have surprises in store for you ... You might want to look for an H2M2 (Husky Huddle, Malamute Mingle) There's one in DFW area and another in the Houston area. Or drop a note to @Twisterii who's in Colorado but part of the H2M2 folks and might be able to offer some ideas. Yes, the forum's slow and I tend to chatter ... sorry. _________________ “Properly trained, a man can be dog’s best friend.” Corey Ford . |

| Al, I chatter too! And that was a pretty good summary of east vs. west TX - although you didn't mention scenery. My husband has mentioned the blowing dirt and dust getting in the house, despite everything being closed up, etc. Yuck! But mostly we prefer the greenery here. And we are in the country, so not too crowded - yet. Although I know our country is going through major demographic shifts right now... And our area is being cleared and developed at an alarming rate. I hate the bugs - except for the cool walking sticks, praying mantis,... I'll try to check out the H2M2 folks. Yes, lots of huskyisms out of our Huck so far, but no doubt more to come! |

Well, sometimes, maybe ... forgive an old man please for moving her from Missouri to Colorado. I don't know if she'd object to that or not. I was really just tagging her so she'd see the message about H2M2 unless I've completely lost it. Looking at the H2M2 messages here, I may have been thinking about @jbealer ... I'm gonna shut up now. _________________ “Properly trained, a man can be dog’s best friend.” Corey Ford . |
