2. Read the Stickies and Announcements. Each sub-forum may have specific rules which trump the Forum Rules in cases where there may be conflicting information. Read the rules of each board before you post so that you are clear on the expectations of the staff.
3. Respect ALL Staff and Admins. These people volunteer of their time and MUST be respected as well as their word adhered to. They are responsible for maintaining a free, open, clear and organized forum. Anyone found to be openly undermining any official ruling by a staff member will be warned.
4. Signatures: One picture only and no links. Images: To keep the forum looking neat and tidy, we ask that members insert just one picture only in their signatures. The picture should be no more than 200x500 pixels and should be of an appropriate subject, for example, your dogs and their names. Should you need assistance creating an appropriate signature, please PM an Admin and we would be happy to help! This is to ensure that signatures remain a welcome addition to our forum instead of a cumbersome distraction. Links: Hyperlinks in signatures--unless to a personal blog or photo stream of your dogs (like Flckr or Piscasa, for example)--are strictly prohibited. Puppy behavior issue Empty
PostSubject: Puppy behavior issue    Puppy behavior issue EmptySat Jun 04, 2011 9:34 pm

My 5 month old husky "attacks" when family members (including myself) try to take or move shoes away from her. In the below video I was demonstrating what she does.

Also, she will occasionally run up and start biting the family and I. This will happen if I'm watching tv on the couch or sitting on the floor.

Notes: She has been through puppy education and didn't have any problems. She is very loving and will give puppy kisses to total strangers. She is very excited to play with other dogs as well. She doesn't have any issues with people taking food away from her. You can stick your hand in her food bowl while she is eating and she wouldn't care.

Please let me know if you have any suggestions on how to correct this behavior. Thank You!

Sorry that I missed this!!!

What it seems like to me is that your puppy is likely associating shoes with leaving. You probably only get your shoes before you head out the door, right? Based on her actions at all other times towards you, this is the only thing that makes sense to me right off the bat. What I would do is to start bringing treats with you to the shoes. As you're reaching for a shoe, make her sit and give her a treat. She should get lots of love and praise as you're taking your shoes and putting them on. If she goes after you, like you did in the video, say "Ah-ah!" or a sharp "No!" and ask her to sit. Praise her, reach for the shoe and give her a treat.

What you want to do is to have her start associating you getting your shoes with a positive reward so that she doesn't go for your hands.

In any other situation when she uses her mouth to play or bite, correct her and ignore her. Shut down play or communication with her. Bring her to another room and isolate her or yourself. Teach her that teeth on skin means that she doesn't get to be near you.

Hope this helps!
