PostSubject: Finns in some serious pain   Finns in some serious pain EmptyWed Nov 30, 2011 2:21 pm

I came home last night to a happy puppy, but then started to notice his almost immediate change about two hours after I got home... whining and not wanting to play, eat or be social like he usually does... I was worried... I then noticed that his testicles ( I haven't gotten him neutered yet, have only had him for 11 days) were swollen, his tail was down, and he laid on his side.... I don't know what this could be... I have him scheduled for a vet at 2:30 today, but I am so worried about him. He is in some serious pain... I am worried that i wont be able to afford it if he needs surgery or something....

Has this happened to any of you, do you know what it could be?

The swelling happened with in two hours... it was sudden.... he has been licking a lot as well. Is this just an infection or could it be tumors?
I am so worried...

Sounds like a neuter and antibiotics are in order.

I had a boxer that lived 11 long years. He passed away from testicular cancer. I'm not saying thats whats wrong with Finn, but its nothing to play around with. I'm glad your taking him to the vet and not waiting. My guy fought his cancer well for about a year before we had to put him to sleep. Keep us updated, and ill pray that its nothing seriuos.

Has he gone to the bathroom at all? This may sound stupid but it happened to my male cat when he was younger, he ended up having crystals in his urine and blockage. They drained his bladdar and gave meds and he was fine within a day or so.
At least you have an appointment and the vet will give you options no matter whats wrong.
Hang in there.

He went out when I got home yesterday at around 5:00... I didn't watch to see if he went potty or not, as I was getting his food ready for him... I know that when we first got him it took a few days for him to poop, and I figured he was just getting used to eating and his new diet... As I do not know when the last time he had been fed before we got him... His number one cycle seemed to be just fine... Oh brother :/ this just breaks my heart!

Oh my, I am so very sorry to hear about your dog. I know that must have been difficult to watch...

That was one of my first thoughts... and I have tried to steer away from it, because that would just kill me. Would it just come on suddenly like that?
I just hope that it's something a little less serious, and can be fixed with some antibiotics and love!
Again I am so sorry to hear about your boy, and thank you so much for the prayers! I sure do know he needs them!

Thank you so much, everyone at work is saying the same thing!
Trying to stay in high spirits. I get to go home and see him in about ten minutes for my lunch break. My boyfriend will be the one taking him to the vet, hopefully he'll be able to call me so i can listen in on the conversation with the doc!
Wish there was more I could do to make him more comfortable until he gets in the doc office!

Thank you so much, I will most definitely let you guys know how things go!

PostSubject: Re: Finns in some serious pain   Finns in some serious pain EmptyWed Nov 30, 2011 7:31 pm

Hey guys, I have an update on Mr. Finn...
My boy has had quite a day... but he's such a fighter! He went to the vet and she was doing an exam and checking his testicles, while doing so they burst open and started to bleed... She said that this is not an infection and was caused by trauma to his scrotum.... She wanted 480 to get him neutered, I simply can not afford that, so she immediately came down to 240... so I called my town vet, he said he will do it for 80.... So my boy is getting some medication and will be going home to rest until I find out when it's safe to get him fixed... this has been such a terrible day... I hope that none of you have to experience this...

Thank you guys so much for your support, I will keep you all updated as he recovers.

Poor guy. I hope he's ok. What kind of trauma do you think happened?

Him and Dot play really rough... so I am sure it happened whenever they were playing together... she might have nipped them trying to bite his tail or leg, or it might have even been her accidentally stepping on it... We aren't sure what the cause was but know that it was a trauma, not an infection... My poor little guy! I can't imagine how much pain he has been in.

I am praying for a quick recovery!

Oh poor Finn! So you have to wait to get him neutered until they heal? How badly did they burst open? Shocked Sad Is he acting a little better now? He is on antibiotics and pain meds?

First off- I don't know where any vet gets off quoting a $500 neuter. Seriously on an older dog (where it's more "difficult" and takes longer) it's still about a 5-7 minute procedure.

I would think the fact that they burst open would have alleviated some pressure. I would try and get him in as soon as possible, better to just get them taken off now before they swell again or some complication arises.

Considering she dropped the price immediately, I'm going to guess she was trying to quote "an emergency fee" to do it right then and there.

Yes, my vet that will be doing the neuter said he wants Finn to heal up before he does anything to him, he told us to wait a week to 10 days... I wasn't there when it happened, but Matt said he and the vet were talking and noticed that there was blood dripping as well as the built up fluid. He is at home sleeping comfortably now! And in 10 days we will take him to our vet and have him taken care of! rendeer

I am just glad that he is okay!

Probably, but that is still ridiculous! And I would never pay 500 for that, even if I could afford it unless it was a matter of life and death!

I am going by what my vet told me to do!
We took him to the animal care clinic to get him looked at right them and there...
My vet even said she was ripping us off, and that there was no reason why she should have charged that much... emergency or not!

Finn is about 11 months to a year old, so he is still a puppy... the price was outrageous!

they burst open so they are draining right now... He is on an anti inflammatory, pain meds and and antibiotic... so he should be fine until he heals with no complications at all.

Oh and Melissa, yes he is on pain medication, antibiotics as well as an anti inflammatory... They have gone down in size a good bite and he is feeling much much better, only a little ashamed because he has to wear the cone of shame! But he is resting and getting lots of love and attention!
I am so glad things weren't as bad as I had originally thought.... we expect a full and quick recovery, and a neuter to follow! In a months time Finn will be a new man!

It's not mean... it's what I have been instructed to do.
Sorry if you feel that is wrong, but I'd like my puppy to be healthy enough to undergo the surgery.

Most definitely a difficult thing to gauge, especially when you don't know the person or their sense of humor.
