Does anyone have experience with TempurPedic mattresses, TempurPedic mattress topper, or TempurPedic-type products - mattress or mattress toppers?

I have a Select Number bed that has a foam topper which is packed down and I am looking to replace it with something that'll hold up for a few years.

Thanks!

I use to work for a furniture store that sold Tempurpedic. In the mornings before the store woulds open I would lay on the floor samples looking for something I myself would like to buy. I actually had enough time to lay on like 2 a day for like 30 mins. When I got to the Tempurpedics I was like hey these are comfortable but after 30 mins I would find myself starting to perspire.
There were some customers looking for a mattress that would try them and thought it made them feel a little warm.
But then some customers loved them.
Right before I left the company I think Tempurpedic was coming out with a new mattress that was suppose to fix the issue of people perspiring while sleeping. Not sure what became of that.

I have a Lady Americana backmaster that's memory foam like tempurpedic. I think it is extremely comfortable but like Deb said it reflects body heat. Okay in the winter but stinks in Oklahoma summer. I had to buy a mattress pad that dispersed your body heat to make up for the memory foam. My wife wants a sleep number but man they are pricey and I'm not sure they feel as comfortable. We have the usual problem, she likes a firmer and I like a softer bed. I was used to a waterbed when we got married.

EDIT: This is like the mattress pad I bought except now they make a memory foam topper. Pricey but it maybe worth a look.

I do like the Sleep Number - I like firm mattresses and hubby likes it softer, so it works perfect. The problem is the foam topper that gets packed out, which is why I'm looking for a mattress topper. I'd have to double check but I believe there is then a small mattress pad that zips up over the foam topper. I wonder if that'll be enough to disperse body heat from the memory foam....

Heh, it auto-corrected "say" to "day". Classic.

We have one of the Sealy memory foam pads. I didn't really get a heat issue from it, my heat issue comes from the two 10lb furry space heaters wrapped around my legs. But it did take me several weeks to get used to it. It's extremely comfortable when going to sleep, but I was waking up a lot and starting my mornings a bit tired. Now it seems fine , but I prefer more of a plywood on concrete stiffness from beds.

So last night we went to check out the 2.5" tempurpedic-type mattress topper Urban Mattress had which they had. It has a 12 yr warranty (vs the lifetime warranty that TempurPedic's 3" mattress topper) and it only cost 1/3 the price of the TempurPedic product. We tried it on a firm mattress and a less firm mattress and it seems that it would be just what we'd need to replace the foam pad.

With the foam pad packing out, I had to set my side of the Select Number bed more firm (I like firm mattresses), but after replacing the foam pad with this memory foam pad, I could set my sleep number to a less firm number.

I slept better last night than I have been!

So - with the Select Number bed we have, we unzip the small pillow top, removed the foam pad that sits on top of the air mattresses, replaced it with the memory foam pad, zipped it back up so we have a small pillow top sitting over the memory foam, then the mattress cover, then the fitted sheet....I don't think we'll get hot in the summer from the memory foam since it's under the pillow top, but it's close enough to feel it's support. We can still adjust the air in the mattress and feel the adjustment.

So, if you're looking to buy a Select number bed, just know that the foam pad that sits on top of the air mattresses will pack out in about 4-5 years. And a decent memory foam pad of about 2.5" will give you comfort back and last a whole lot longer than foam.

Thanks everyone for your feedback!
