Forum Rules
1. Here we prefer clarity to agreement. Obviously not everyone is going to agree on a topic; here we prefer to talk out our differences in a respectful manner to ensure mutual understanding and respect.
2. Read the Stickies and Announcements. Each sub-forum may have specific rules which trump the Forum Rules in cases where there may be conflicting information. Read the rules of each board before you post so that you are clear on the expectations of the staff.
3. Respect ALL Staff and Admins. These people volunteer of their time and MUST be respected as well as their word adhered to. They are responsible for maintaining a free, open, clear and organized forum. Anyone found to be openly undermining any official ruling by a staff member will be warned.
4. Signatures: One picture only and no links. Images: To keep the forum looking neat and tidy, we ask that members insert just one picture only in their signatures. The picture should be no more than 200x500 pixels and should be of an appropriate subject, for example, your dogs and their names. Should you need assistance creating an appropriate signature, please PM an Admin and we would be happy to help! This is to ensure that signatures remain a welcome addition to our forum instead of a cumbersome distraction. Links: Hyperlinks in signatures--unless to a personal blog or photo stream of your dogs (like Flckr or Piscasa, for example)--are strictly prohibited. Please PM a staff member with any questions or concerns regarding this rule.

So I hopped into the world of being a Husky owner today. There was a sweet 6 year old named Dakota who needed a home. His family was going through a divorce and he was forced out of the home. The mother wanted to put Dakota to sleep because she thought he was a nuisance. The father had to find Dakota a home within five days otherwise Dakota would have been euthanized, and by the fifth day Dakota had no offers of a home. I couldn't let anyone put a dog to sleep like that, so my boyfriend and I took him in. I absolutely adore Dakota already. He's a wonderful dog, but I've never had a Husky before. Is there any toy huskies must have? How do I break his leash pulling? Any tips would be wonderful Smile

Smile I am glad you took him in. I do think he needs a good teeth cleaning by the vet - but otherwise he seems to be in good health Smile

He definitely needs a teeth cleaning. It's overwhelming to have a Husky, but I already love him so much. He's going to be such a beautiful baby when he's all groomed Smile

He's actually ridiculously well behaved and hardly talked - unless he was agitated by Cato's talking.

Congrats on becoming a Husky Mummy. And my hat goes off to you for rescuing him. He'a an abolute stunner. I am always in Awe of Woolies. Once he gets de-matted and shown some TLC I'm sure he'll be the most handsome boy around.

Congrats on becoming a husky mom. Thanks for rescuing him. As for toys mine do like squeeky toys we have some squeeky balls that Blaze loves. Kerian is still seems to be learning about toys..

After a good grooming and some teeth cleaning I am sure he will be even more beautiful.

Welcome

He will be thankful for what you have done for him.

Leash training is the same as with any other dog, you just need a bit more patience and be a hundret percent consequent.

Welcome & Cograts! Dakota is a handsome boy! As for toys I would suggest strong rubbery ones, because the squeakers in plush can be dangerous. Also, get bully sticks, marrow bones, or antlers! They last a long time and the dog's just love them!
