rough play with other dogs?!! Empty
PostSubject: rough play with other dogs?!!   rough play with other dogs?!! EmptyFri Nov 02, 2012 8:33 pm

Hi guys,
My molly is 9wks old and plays so.rough with my dads year old jack russell(one of those jacks that looks like it works out in the gym) that the jack is terrified of hmolly and hides behind my mam or dad or even me, or runs upstairs and hides. I'm kind of afraid now to introduce molly to other dogs in case she either plays to rough and the dogs are afraid to play with her or another dog gets annoyed and vicious with molly and really hurts her.
Is there a safe and sound way of getting Molly to calm down a bit around other dogs so she can actually socialise with other dogs as i feel its really impirtant for molly to have some dog friends.
Thanks for any help guys
Molly and Darren

Molly, I wrote a question similar to this called "Need help with "baby" or "soft" command?" In the training section that a lot of people wrote answers to that helped and seem like it would be helpful for your question. Go look at the thread and hopefully that can shed some light on the subject! Smile

Howdy.

We have a thread on meeting other dogs,

Eddy does it in a field

After that read understand a few things.

Territory is huge for them. Bringing a pup into another one's house is invading that territory. Meeting on neutral ground goes a long way in calm down emotions later on in the house.

Huskies play rough. It's a lot of biting, shaking, and pinning. It doesn't mean it's malicious.

In the end the best way of getting Molly to calm down around other dogs is introducing her to as many as you can and correcting her mistakes.

Hope it helped,
~Chris~

Huskies do play rough, Freya's BFF is a retirever x spaniel and is 6 weeks older than Fre. THey are similar in age and in size so there is no problems at all with their play. THey both play rough with eachother.

My mum's maltese x is 11 yo, she is an old lady and is completelly over the young whipper snappers of today. She cant be bothered at all with Fre adn goes to hide as soon as she sees her.

Maybe it's the size difference?

Thanks for the help and advice guys. Everyone is so helpful on here, makes things a whole lot easier. Will have a look at those threads, hopefully they help. Also going to bring Molly to professional obediance training classes. After her injections nxt week. Although i do train her myself. I believe she could benefit from professional obediance training and there will be lots of other dogs there too so it seems like the perfect thing to do for her.
Anybody here do professional obediance training with their huskies and if so how did it go?
Thanks for everyones continued help

I didnt with Freya, she knows the basics - Sit, paw, laydown, she knowqs to leave her meals until I give her the signal that she can have them, she's crate trained (although she has been sleeping in my bed w/ me for the past 2 weeks). She doesnt jump (unless visitors dont follow my simple instructions to stop her from jumping on her).

I and so many people I know think she's really very well behaved. I went through a month or so where I was pulling my hair out with her, even questioning if I had done the right thing. It was really hard, especially because I've gopt small kids. But 4.5 months after getting her, she has turned into my best friend, she's fabulous and I cant imagine my life without her.

Ye i know the feeling ur talking about as, even though i'm doing all the right things for some reason Molly is still doing really bratty things. She growled and howled at me for interrupting bad behaviour and today while my gf eas eating an apple Molly tried to grab it and wen my gf gestured to molly to move back the way i do (molly sits wen i raise two fingers in the air) molly snapped at her face. I'm worried my breeder may have bred more as conveniance with whatever dog he could as oppose to breeding for temperament. We will be starting obediance training in couple of weeks but i'm quite worried about these two incidents. Shes only 9wks. Will this mpst likely get worse or better??
