We got 2 huskies a while back, A male and a female. The male was around 8 months old when we got him and the female was around 2 years old. From day one she was aggressive towards my little rat terrier and tried to kill him 3 times so we gave her back to the owners. My little dog is just a lazy old man dog so I really dont know what made her do that...and I started noticing when we would go out for walks she would try to attack other dogs. We had another husky for a little while and she was the same way towards my little dog. My male husky though is just as chill and awesome as can be and the male we had before him was the same way. I was thinking of getting a female husky pup one we move home so that Bandit could have someone to play with but I just wanted to know if Females seem to be more aggressive towards little dogs or other dogs or if I just got 2 bad apples?

Thanks!!

well i have only owned one female my whole life and she is the alpha in our pack. huskies in general have high pray drives, small dogs are seen as pray to them. you could have just gotten two girls with high pray drives.

Welcome to the forums.

No. Weather male or female or any breed there is no such thing as an inherently aggressive towards anything. They have been domesticated over hundreds of years.

When dogs lack the proper guidance, socialization, training, or straight out of protection or fear are the only times I've ever seen a dog be aggressive... Those however, all have very little to do with the dog itself in most cases.

In your case it could also be that they both were under the notion your rat terrier was prey.

Something has to be missing in a dogs life for it to be aggressive, in my humble opinion. Weather that is mental stability, or a number of other reasons dealing with it's growth. Breed and sex have very little to do with it in my eyes.

That could be why your rescues appeared more aggressive, as they just were not socialized with other dogs properly?

I'm hoping that is what it was...I think she was use to big dogs. I'm hoping I can get a puppy and train her and have her around my little dog and do okay. I know once we gave the female husky back to the previous owners she started being aggressive towards her kids which I'm glad I gave her back when I did. I dont know what happened with her...we gave her all the attention and love that Bandit got but she just went nuts. Thanks for the advice!

Well, also you have to think that huskies have the pack mentality. When we first got Bandit, he wasn't really socialized, so he only liked huskies. Bandit is the Alpha male at the dog park here. The only time he tries to show his dominance is when he marks around the park and when another dog is giving off that dominant aura. The last dog to come into the dog park showing dominance and aggression was a Shiba Inu. The dog tried to mount Bandit (which he hates), so he pinned the smaller dog and laid on top of him, growling. Before our training with Bandit, he would have been biting and attacking. Socialization is key for any dog at a young age, but sometimes you get owners that never socialized their dogs and it makes it rough when they join your family!
