| I feel so bad! Let me lead you to what happened. My son and his girlfriend came over for dinner and brought Piper along. After we ate, I had my son hold onto each dog for me so I could clip their nails. All of them hate it but Colton's pretty good at distracting them while I clip....except for Aspen. I've been trying for months to get her used to me holding her paws and she freaks out if i don't let go right away. I didn't end up doing hers cause I could tell she was getting upset despite Colton trying to distract her. So once that was done, we attempted pics in front of the tree. I got the shot of my son, his GF and piper so we then attempted another pic with them and all the dogs. It wasn't going so well. It was actually pretty comical. So I thought I would try and get a pic with just me with Aspen and Willow. I pulled Aspen into my lap and put my arm around her. She was doing great and relaxed into me immediately. So then I reached over to grab Willow and Willow wasn't having it. She reached over and snapped at Aspen. It wasn't an aggressive snap....if she had done it to my hand, i would have barely felt it but I think because I had Aspen in a hug, she felt trapped when Willow did that??? It turned into what I thought was a minor scuffle. It didn't last but seconds and Willow immediately went to Aspen licking her face as if to make up but then I noticed Willows eye was bleeding. Aspen got her on the lower lid. It's now a bit swollen but it looks like a very small cut. This picture is crappy and it looks worse than it is cause she rubbed the blood all over her eye. I just feel like an idiot. I think I stressed them out too much with the nail cutting and then trying to get them to sit for a picture. It makes me so mad that Aspen was treated so badly! I'm constantly working with her, building trust but she can still be so skittish in certain situations. All I can think is that I had her in a hug is what made her go at it with Willow. Any thoughts? |

| Don't be too hard on yourself, things happen. Her eye doesn't look bad at all. Just keep it clean and I'm sure it'll heal fine When I let my friend bring over her Mal, which I knew was dog aggressive, I felt SO bad when Zoey got attacked, she had 3 deep puncture wounds and it killed me that I could have prevented it. |

| Don't blame yourself, it could have happened any time.
My guy's use to get in scuffles ALL the time that usually ended with one going to the vet. Sometimes I use to feel guilty like it was my fault, but over time they ended up having fight's even when I wasn't around. As time passed I learned that I can't always take the blame for it.
They are like kids, sometimes siblings will fight, but at the end of the day, they still love each other. It will probably happen again down the road, it's just one of those thing's that happen. |

| This is the first time I've had to deal with a scuffle resulting in injury. Ive had dogs my whole life and I guess I've just been lucky and not had any serious dog fights occur. I think if Aspen hadn't got her in that location, there probably wouldn't even be an injury so I know this wasn't a serious fight either. I'm just more mad at myself for over stressing them.
Alexandra, I've been working with Aspen since I got her to get used to me touching her paws. I will randomly reach over and hold a paw for a second then another time try an hold it longer and even try messaging them on occasion. Nothing seems to be working. I have not tried it with treats just because it would cause Willow to come running over to us. That girl knows when I even think about giving them a treat! Lol! |
