Transport help??? Empty
PostSubject: Transport help???   Transport help??? EmptyWed Feb 13, 2013 2:41 am

There is a husky at. Devore shelter in CA I am willing to adopt (im in WI) just wondering if anyone has any connections or info on how to do a transport.

I have a friend who has just started organizing transports and she is looking into it also, but I figured I'd check with you all.

Thanks!!

Some shelters require a rescue to pull the animal if it needs transported. With the transport that I used with Kennedy, the dogs had to be quarentined for 2 weeks before they were allowed on transport. So make sure you get all of that figured out before hand.

-This looks VERY promising!
http://www.dogsindanger.com/transport.jsp
https://www.facebook.com/pages/California-Animal-Rescue-Transportation-CART/132565503430064
-I'm not too sure about this one..the page doesn't really explain anything..

Make sure you figure out the shelters requirements on transporting and everything you have to do before you start actually setting up a transport lol..that wouldn't be good!

Cassie, do you have a local person that is going to pull the dog for you? LA shelters including Devore will only allow in person adoptions or pulls by approved local rescues by a "puller". If you do have someone local, you'll also likely need to arrange boarding for the dog while arranging for the transport - most pullers have recommended rescue boarding facilities that are about $10-15/day.

I had the same issue when I found Sammy in tx. There was a rescue contacted and they pulled him, took him to the vet, then the vet boarded him for only $5 a day, which was awesome! That gave us a week to get arrangements made. During the holidays though was a bad time to try to do that. I ended up making a 16 hour drive down to NE tx to get him.

I talked to the shelter and yes, someone has to go there and do all the adoption work. I've got a friend that's been working with a group who do transports , so right now I'm waiting to hear from her.

I appreciate all your help, really hoping this all works out

Thanks Linda/John, I appreciate that. I understand, right now I feel helpless....he's WAY far away. But this seems to be a great community and if things do work out ill have LOTS of questions.

Cassie - most shelters have designated pullers so if you can get a rescue on board, you can get someone to personally go to the shelter and transport to the boarding facility for you. If you need transport and a crate to the airport, PetTaxi is available here.

Thanks Sam, I'm waiting from my friend to hear back from her friend who has a contact in CA. Do you have any recommendations if that doesn't work out? I have never done this before.

Would I ask Devore about a puller? I've been looking at the recommendations others have sent. The other thing I was wondering is do u know if Devore does temperament testing? My friend has had a dog pulled from there and she said they did temperament test, but she doesn't know if they always do it. The woman I spoke to said they do rabies, bordatella, neutering and microchipping.

I never deal with that shelter but have networked dogs that come through there - usually Cheryl Meyer does pulling for a legit rescue:
contact CHERYL MEYER ASAP and call a Devore supervisor to hold, 909-887-8055, ext. 0. EMAIL TO PULL TO SAFETY FOR YOU: CHERYLMEYER@HOTMAIL.COM

Contact her to see if it's possible for her to pull for you.

There are also multiple FB pages that network Devore dogs and you may able to get someone to help you:
https://www.facebook.com/SaveTheDevoreDogs?ref=ts&fref=ts

Are you on FB threads for this dog?If the dog is NOT rescue only, you'll need to get someone to adopt him themselves and then sign the dog over to you. If the dog is rescue only, you'll need to find a rescue to help pull him. Time is of the essence. Unfortunately, I don't know anyone out there to help you.

Thank you so much Sam!!! He actually can't be adopted until the 15 so I'm not sure if he is rescue only. Apparently he ran away from home, but when I called Devore today they said his owners have not claimed him yet.

Thanks for all the info it is very much appreciated.

Thanks everyone for your help/advice. Unfortunately I was not able to adopt the husky from Devore; however the woman I talked to said he had been adopted. So while I'm sad; at least he is safe Smile

I don't know really what you're situation is right now, but a breeder I talk to, just took in two 9 year old Siberians, they'relittermates and can't be seperated. Their owner passed away and they're looking for their forever home together. They're in Ripon, WI

Cassie,

Have you looked on Petfinder for a Husky.

I did a quick search and found several in Wisconsin.

Linda/John,

Thanks; I have looked on petfinder. I think the biggest problem I run into is that I have a 5 year old and most of the dogs on petfinder or from rescues say they approve the dogs for ages 10 and up. I have not contacted anyone to verify this; but it seems to be the norm. Also, I have never owned a husky and so I would prefer one that hasn't been abused or has trust issues.
