2. Read the Stickies and Announcements. Each sub-forum may have specific rules which trump the Forum Rules in cases where there may be conflicting information. Read the rules of each board before you post so that you are clear on the expectations of the staff.
3. Respect ALL Staff and Admins. These people volunteer of their time and MUST be respected as well as their word adhered to. They are responsible for maintaining a free, open, clear and organized forum. Anyone found to be openly undermining any official ruling by a staff member will be warned.
4. Signatures: One picture only and no links. Images: To keep the forum looking neat and tidy, we ask that members insert just one picture only in their signatures. The picture should be no more than 200x500 pixels and should be of an appropriate subject, for example, your dogs and their names. Should you need assistance creating an appropriate signature, please PM an Admin and we would be happy to help! This is to ensure that signatures remain a welcome addition to our forum instead of a cumbersome distraction. Links: Hyperlinks in signatures--unless to a personal blog or photo stream of your dogs (like Flckr or Piscasa, for example)--are strictly prohibited. Please PM a staff member with any questions or concerns regarding this rule.

separation - Settling and Separation anxiety Empty
PostSubject: Settling and Separation anxiety    separation - Settling and Separation anxiety EmptyMon Feb 25, 2013 3:43 pm

Hello Everyone!

So Nanook just turned 9 months old, and we just moved into a new smaller place.
He is getting much better with his crate training, will go in willingly, and cries very little when hes in there with the door shut.

I know that it is going to take some time for him to get used to the new place, but until then is there anything I can do to help the process??
When I leave he begins to howl very obnoxiously, and he scratches at the crate. He has plenty of toys/bones/kong toys, I even cover the crate and turn on the TV when I leave. At the old house he was doing very well when I left, so I know a lot if this is due to moving.
I am going to try working him harder before I leave in the mornings as well.

He has a training collar that he responds to very well, he even does excellent off the leash because of it, and I am currently considering buying a bark collar for him. Does anyone have any good experiences with the bark collar?

(please keep all personal opinions of collar use off of the comments. I have had great results with the training collar and as a struggling college student a trainer is out of the options.)

I look forward to hearing your suggestions and advice!

Leaving for a few seconds or minutes, coming back, working up to a longer time just like begining crate training might help. (If you're not already doing that.) I'm sure he'll pick it up faster since he knows how it goes already and just needs a reminder that he'll be okay and you'll always come back.
Petsmart sells something called the sonic egg. It makes a high pitched noise when they bark. I haven't used it myself, but that might be an option you could look into.
I can't say about the bark collar. Hopefully others will chime in.
