Crate/potty-Night time....NEED HELP! Empty
PostSubject: Crate/potty-Night time....NEED HELP!   Crate/potty-Night time....NEED HELP! EmptyMon Mar 04, 2013 9:08 am

Everything I have read says take her to potty every 2 hours (since she is 8 weeks old). So lets say if I take her out to potty at 2am, put her in her crate and she cries/howls for an hour and a half and then goes to sleep. Do I wake her up at 4am and take her out or should I let her sleep and take her out when she wakes up?

Thanks!

Best not to wake a sleeping puppy, especially if it took that long for them to pass out. lol Definitely take them out when they start to cry in the middle of the night. With Cheyenne we usually had to take her out at about midnight and 3-4am and then she'd sleep until 7-8am

Thank you! I have a new game plan for tonight and I know it's going to be a LONG night. I have given in, thinking that if I sat with her after potty at night that it would be easier for her to go to sleep because she would feel safe. That didn't work at all, in fact I think it made things worse. Sad I am just going to leave her be tonight, let her cry/howl/whine all she wants. Take her to potty every 2 hours, unless she is asleep and go from there. Hoping and praying this works. She's really smart so I hope she catches on fast. Wish me luck! Thanks again!

It gets tricky because I can't always tell the difference between "I gotta pee" and "I hate my life." The former is more whiny, the latter is more howly.

Ditto with Link for the first 3-4 days. Then about day 5-7 it was more like pee before sleep around 11, sleep till about 5, awake at 7 and out again before breakfast.

I KNOW! I took her out so many times last night it wasn't funny. I took her water away about an hour or so before bed, so she should make it 2 hours right?

As long as she is drinking throughout the day regularly you can try cutting it off even earlier. Pretty much any book I've read recently says 7 pm is a good water off the floor time. If you have a romp with her after that she may want some more and go over to the spot where her bowl is, then maybe just give her a quick drink.

We notice he pants when he's gotta go, so that helps too.

How's she doing otherwise? Still shy or aloof? Playful or affectionate? Took Link a few days to open up.

She's still pretty shy but is coming around really well. She is following us through the house now and playing some. She loves being close and loves to cuddle. Potty training is going GREAT! Only one accident inside and that was Saturday, about 2-3 hours after we got her.
