Ok, ever since we got Luna, I have noticed that the whites of her eyes have a reddish/brownish hue in color. Is this normal? Do most huskies with blue eyes have this? Does anyone know?

Are you talking right around the iris or on the actual sclera (whites of eye)?

Then no that's not normal. If it is on the edges of the iris ( on the outside, not by the pupil), then yes, that's common, but if it is associated with the sclera and not touching the iris, then I would be concerned. Do you have a picture?

WOW! That was NOT an easy task! LOL! I took about 60 pictures just trying to get one where she was still and these are the best I could do. Hopefully you can see what I am talking about.

She's been that way ever since we've had her. Her eyes don't water or get matted or have gunk in them or anything. It doesn't seem to bother her at all. On one of her first visits to the vet, he gave us some ointment to put in her eyes to see if that would do anything and it didn't. Then he gave us some drops and we used those all up, but no change in color. Like I said, it doesn't seem to bother her or slow her down any. And the vet we use is a GREAT vet, but here in Mississippi they don't see very many huskies, so they aren't husky experts. But he doesn't seem worried about it. I was just curious.

If its been that way since you have had her and the vet isn't worried, I'm sure it is her genetic uniqueness Smile so interesting though! I'll have to do some research on it! Kale has brown around the edges of his iris before the sclera, but he definitely has white after. I'll post his pic when I get off work to compare. Hopefully someone else will have better insight or a Sibe with the same thing as Dakota.

I don't know the cause, but Luci has the same thing It doesn't bother her, and the vet isn't overly concerned but is keeping an eye on it.

I couldn't get decent pics either. She wouldn't hold still, and there is a glare from the lights. (they are redder in real life than how they are showing up here)

The above is normal since it is associated with the iris, the white of the eye is defined afterward (even if it is red/irritated). The concern with the OP is the sclera is brown not just around the edges of the iris.

It probably didn't show up well enough in the pics, but the entire whites of her eyes (sclera) are red - definitely not as dark/brown as the OP's though.

Dakota's is like that as well, but her's get red after she eats then it goes back to white after a hour of so, same with in inside of her ears... it does it with every food we have tried.

she is sensitive to food, she is on BBW now, with all other foods she had more reactions to though, she would have diarrhea, vomiting, even one she had swelling to her face... so with the BBW all she gets is the redness, but it doesnt seem to bug her at all, she is still just as playful and happy as normal. The vet doesnt seem to be concerned at all.

Selena's whites gets ALL red as well. It doesn't happen all the time, like right now she is laying next to me on the couch and they are white scratch. But when it does happen it freaks me out, so weird looking! I've been meaning to ask the vet next time we are there.

Kelly- My dog has had the same thing for years. It seems to have appeared with age. She still sees fine and all of her vet check ups go wonderfully.

Where are you in Mississippi? So glad to see another husky owner down here, I just moved here in Aug.
