I've had her 7 days now. 4 year old rescue. Still really good girl. No accidents inside! No howling! No chewing on anything. Eating 3 cups of food a day. Seems to like lots of pets and being groomed with the brush gloves.

But damn is she a lazy husky.

I got her a bunch of rope toys and a squeaky toy. Played with none. No interest.

Got her three bones, some rawhide ones and a nicer fatty beef one. She moved a few around, but still hasn't even chewed on them. I tried freezing the beef one. No interest still.

I gave her a kong with peanut butter, and that got a response for like 10 minutes, but then she lost interest with it still having most of the peanut butter in it.

I opened the blinds so she could look out windows, and I'm on the second floor of a decently active area, so lots to see! She never looks outside the windows.

All she does is sleep, and go for walks. She does seem happy on walks, but the only thing that gets a BIG response of excitement are ducks or squirrels. Also other dogs put her on guard. She also loves roast chicken and these blue bell dog treats, those get a big response from her. But that's it, other than those things and shes just sleeping.

She also really likes running alongside me. I think once I'm in better shape will try land mushing.

I feel like I need something indoors for her to do other than sleep? Is there some bone that huskys just go crazy for? Or do like squirrel shaped toys do anything?

Now shes just laying there licking the floor...

You've only had her for 7 days, there's still a lot of learning about each other going on and it will for a month or so.

I have two huskies (and a GSD) and my Huskies want to be where I am and if I'm on the computer they just pull up a piece of floor, figuratively, and crash.

Since you say that she likes running, you can probably get more 'personality' out of her by spending more time 'on the streets' - a run, a walk, whatever to get her outside and 'waking up'.

As far as chew toys - my GSD puppy (7 months today) has tackled their nylabones but I don't think either of the Huskies have even looked at them in a year.  Some dogs chew and some don't, some don't unless they need something to relieve tension (or anxiety, etc)  That she doesn't isn't a big deal - except money spent that probably won't show any return.

What'd you spill on the floor that she's licking (smart a$$ question)  I don't know what it is but every once in a while my female starts licking anything she can, floor, couch arms, cabinet doors, who knows why.

We go on like 2 hours of walk/jog a day. I got her a 16' lunge leash and harness she seems to enjoy a lot.

Just inside she seems depressed, and I just want to go over and floof all her adorable cute face fluff and tell her it's all going to be okay but there doesn't seem to be much I can do.

First - what Al said, it's still very early in your life with her. May be 3 months before she's acclimated.

Toys: my guys have zero interest. They do like their frozen beef bone at night. But: 3 cups of food for a4 year old female husky is a LOT! My 53 pounder eats about 1.3 cups per day. My big guy, who is overweight no matter what I do, gets 1 3/4 cups. So I'm guessing she's not interested in added treats because she's stuffed to the gills. A healthy weight husky is a quite lean dog - many people would think too thin. You also might want to have her teeth checked.

As for activity level? If the temperature is above 40⁰ my guys are essentially rugs. The exception is if I take them for a walk or a ride to go for a walk. Otherwise, it's leave me alone - but, like Al's dogs, they like to be near.

Oh really above 40 F? My apartment is usually about 70 F is that too hot?

I was wondering about the food thing. Prior owner said 1 cup for breakfast, 1 cup for lunch and 1 cup for dinner, but then I was reading they should only have two meals a day once adults? I might try giving her 1/2 cup three times and see.

Try feeeding her what the bag of food aays she should eat for her optimum weight and because she is spayed cut that by 20%.

Let's see mine basically sleep all the time except right before sun up and as it cools off at night, sometimes inside sometimes outside but still sleeping. Over 50, nope. Wind nope. But snow comes, and i can't get them in.

Feeding 3 times daily is more for puppies. Adults are typically fed 1-2 times daily. If you're walking/running her 2 hours daily, she is getting ample exercise and you can expect her to sleep the rest of the day. Also - if she wasn't getting that much exercise before you got get, then perhaps you need to cut back and build up gradually. Suddenly going from zilch to 2 hours is a huge jump, she will be exhausted and possibly susceptible to injury. Also - dogs in general sleep way more than people.

As far as temperature's go, Husky's are one of the most easily acclimatized dogs going.  You'll find them in the snow, frigid north and in the bright, hot desert of the American southwest.
I live in the Chihuahuan desert with two Huskies who are both admittedly crashed - but that'll change when I get away from this computer and go out.

I have to agree with @Amymeme, my GSD Puppy gets two cups of food twice a day but he's a seriously growing puppy at 7 months old.  My older two (Huskies) get two cups once a day and put on weight if I don't watch it.

I sometimes disagree with @Lostmaniac and we haven't had a good argument in a long time.  If you feed the amount recommended on the bag it's a safe bet you're feeding way too much.  Dog food companies are in business to make money, so the more you feed, the more you buy and their bankroll just keeps going up.  
Whether she's spayed or not, that 20% she suggest is a good place to start.  Regrettably I've never come up with a good way to tell that a dog is getting too much / too little except to watch their waistline.

hm prior owner said they walked her like 30 minutes every other day, so maybe I should tone it down... we walked for like 3 hours yesterday... but it does seem to be the only thing that she really likes and gets excited about. Although she did live with other dogs before so I presume there was a lot of exercise from that.

she's not spayed, but didn't know that affected how much you feed? She's not fat. I should probably just get her to the vet for a checkup and recommendations on everything. I'll probably do that at the end of a few more weeks once shes not freaked out about everything. Unless I'm actively by her side, giving her a pet and talking to her, her ears still lay down flat quite a bit and looks very worried.

Completely unrelated but anyone know a good vet around inn between Tacoma, Centralia, Aberdeen, Bremerton area of Washington State?

If she had doggie pals at her other home, she may be missing them as well. Also? Keep in mind, huskies can have the most mournful, forlorn, lost soul look of any animal I've come across. And still be perfectly fine I think you can stop worrying about her and just let her sleep when she wants. Back in the day, w when I was still capable of putting on 5 brisk miles a day, my guy would sleep like the dead the rest of the day.

Okay stray, let's get to the middle of things, can you put up a picture or two of her? Preferably one with you standing at her head and taking a picture (more or less) straight down. The second from the side but get down so you're level with her. I'm looking to see how she looks, mostly from the 'belly tuck' from the side picture. Sorry to phrase this this way, you say she's not overweight but unless you've had dogs, Huskies in particular, it's hard to tell.

@stray not at all, in fact she's about as right as she can be.  Except she, like mine and probably most Huskies could use a good brushing.  And if you haven't figured that out, it's a never ending job.

I will note that I had a girl who looked good and hadn't been spayed, then when I had her spayed I couldn't keep the weight off her. It was an ongoing battle.

she wont let me brush her very thoroughly yet... ive used the brush gloves a few times for a few minutes but shes too anxious when I hold the real brush

Ah, but you're still earning her confidence. Most Huskies love the gloves, they're getting the extra hair out and a good 'petting' to boot.

My female (a Siberian) is about at the end of her spring blow, she wants attention but she wants it on her terms so getting her to hold reasonably still for a brushing is not an easy task.
My male (an Alaskan) is really easy, he doesn't have much of a blow and he likes (well, tolerates) the brush - wish that were the other way round.
They tell me that GSD's are also double coated but if they are my pup (7 mos) hasn't had a coat blowing yet. A little mess as he lost the puppy fur and his adult fur came in but not too bad.

Spider was skinny and she got fat when we spayed her. And spider loves being brushed, in 2 minute increments is the spot she wats brushed. I just deal with it. Squirt wont and has never let me brush her back end. Ive had her since she was 8 weeks old. She just wont.
