RUN!! lol! Kidding! Tons of play time and attention! What I did when I first brought home Micole was training. I started on potty training, No biting, create, collar and leash training. By time she was done with her 2nd set of shots she was ready to walk the streets with me and she was potty trained for the most part and all other training follows. Puppys still have accidents from time to time.

But send pictures as soon as you can!!! Very Happy

Keep in mind too that there is nothing personal towards you in the puppy's actions or interest. Puppies are very commonly aloof and unengaged, impersonal for a few days or up to a week as they transition into your home, your lifestyle, and your boundaries and rules....which they need a lot of early on as they learn to respect you and trust you. Introduce new things slowly and steadily but instill self-confidence in your puppy as you do. If ever you see the pup acting scared or nervous encourage her/him to look to you for guidance.

In my experience recently it wasn't until maybe 10 days after his arrival that our puppy started acting like a puppy in the sense of being normally playful and engaged. Our home was very different from the one he was in for the first couple of months of his life. It just takes time for their comfort to develop. Once it does though, you hit the jackpot cause it's amazing.

Good luck!

Have lots of patience and look into NILF training, i love it. Also try working on recall as much as possible so that your pup will be more likely to listen to you if she/he ever gets loose. Huskies don't have great recall and will just run and run if they get loose.

Don't expect too much too soon. This happens all the time. Don't expect your puppy to be potty trained in a month; lots of Siberian puppies are still working on it till they are in the 6-7 month range. Expect potty training lapses as well; don't get mad at your puppy, just clean up the mess and move on. NEVER get mad at your puppy for doing something wrong- like chewing up your favorite pair of socks, peeing right in front of you, barking or howling in the crate....there is no reason to take your frustration out on your pup. TRUST me, you will want to scream your head off. Just remember they don't fully understand what you are asking of them and they look up to you to help them live in our world. Remember, this is a humans world, not a dogs world. It is up to you as their owner to show them what is and isn't allowed; dogs and especially puppies have no idea what is expected of them until they are shown Smile.

One of the other major things is to not trust your new bundle of fur off leash. Now, that's not to say you can't ever trust your pup, but until they are out of the teenager phase, as a general rule, don't do it. As puppies they are pretty much programmed to stick by your side; that does not mean they are recall trained, that just means they are a puppy. Don't let them lull you into thinking they will listen. Work on recall training like Abby said everyday. This is one of the most important things you can do FOR your dog.

If you are crate training, DO NOT give into the screaming puppy. Unless the breeder has worked on crate training, your pup will HATE it (there are of course exceptions). You just have to start slow and make the crate the best thing ever to your puppy. Feed them in there, give them treats they only get in the crate..NEVER give a time out in the crate. Never use the crate as a punishment or you will be shooting yourself in the foot. Your puppy will scream and cry and howl like no other animal you have never heard in your life. Sheba cried for almost an entire month. You WILL loose sleep. You WILL be stressed beyond belief. Remember, tough love is the best thing you can give your puppy. When your puppy cries, don't "SHH!" it, don't hit the crate.. DEFINITELY don't let them out. Once your puppy is quiet and calm, you can let your puppy out and praise like crazy. You will want to give in, especially when you are beyond exhausted. NEVER give in. EVER. Let them cry it out.

Be prepared to take your puppy out at least every hour during the day and usually every 2 hours during the night. They cannot hold their bladders to save their lives, so it is better to be safe and take your dog out more then it needs to be then to have accidents all over the place. Also remember if you try to make your pup hold it for longer then it can, you will put your puppy at risk for UTI. I had to take Sheba out about every 20-30 minutes until she was around 4 months old.

Just remember you got your puppy for a reason, and it does get better Very Happy . We are all here for you when have those, "WHY WOULD I EVER GET THIS PUPPY?!?" moments..I think a lot of us had those moments more then once. Keep a smile on your face and everything will be okay Smile.

Earplugs. Smile a husky puppy will scream like no other animal alive when it wants out of its crate! And when it gets an owie....so, if you accidentally knock it down and it starts screaming bloody murder...don't rush to the vet demanding xrays. They scare easy, and when they get scared, they scream. A lot. And they are big wussies. Bumps that might make the average pup yelp once and go back to playing will have a husky pup sit down and howl for 5 minutes. Our first husky pup once got BETWEEN our adult huskies fighting, and it scared him so bad he screamed for 30 minutes straight- and the entire car ride to the vet where we rushed him convinced he had internal injuries (since there were no marks on him....) the vet just laughed his head off and said "that's a husky for you". There is a reason this forum bears it's name...there are so many things that are just "a husky thing!" They will drive you insane and test your patience like you can't believe, but they are ten times the love and fun of any dog out there , IMHO anyway!

OMG!!! Yes very true!!! I thought mine was just a big baby!!! But now she plays with pit bulls and our other dog (australian shepherd) and they are VERY VERY rough... they never hurt her but they have been teaching her to stop being a wuss lol and they do scream like you are trying to kill them or something lol

Second this..we got two and started to really question our sanity and we did argue a lot about them..Now that they are older it is somewhat easier. When it comes down to it we were very frustrated, angry any negative word you can think of but neither of us could even think about getting rid of them - they quickly wheedle their way into your lives.

Enjoy the good times and try not to worry about any setbacks.
