I've stated elsewhere in the forums about how I love my veterinarian, but I have to share something that happened just the other day. My vet office is VERY Husky friendly because most of the people who work there own Siberian Huskies. So, they're very familiar with -- and fond of -- the quirks of the breed.

I took Misty in there earlier this week to get her weighed. When we first acquired her from the shelter last September, her ribs were sticking out, and we've gone through a host of gastrointestinal issues to get her tummy in good working order and get some weight on her. Success! She's gone up a pound! Woo hoo! The vet thinks she can tolerate a bit more weight, but Misty is now, officially no longer just fur and bones. Hooray!

Anyway, while we were waiting to get weighed, a big, burly man with a cat carrier walked into the clinic. (For some reason, I just think it's adorable to see a huge, burly man with a kitty cat). Misty was being MOSTLY good and ignoring the cat and the man -- because the office staff was playing with her and petting her. Misty was LOVING it and she was pulling and pulling and pulling on her leash to go from one person to another 'cause she was all happy and excited by the attention.

Anyway, the cat man was apparently concerned by all the pulling Misty was doing and tried to offer some advice: "You know, they have these no-pull harnesses--" And IMMEDIATELY, three voices said simultaneously, but kindly, "SHE'S A HUSKY." Then to relieve any hurt feelings the receptionist very nicely explained to the cat man that Huskies were born to pull and Misty was still new to the idea of not pulling. I was like, wow, I didn't have to defend my dog at all -- Everyone else was doing it for me!

Misty then went off to be weighed and the staff turned their attentions to the cat (which was apparently there to get neutered), gushing about what a good cat he was and how handsome he was, and how responsible the man was being for looking after his cat, etc., etc. By the time I left with Misty, the cat man had forgotten all about her and was all pleased and puffed up with pride over his cat.

That's just one of many reasons why I love my vet -- and why Misty now loves the vet, too!

We have the same Vet experience! I met our vet through a friend that also has huskies that happened to stumble into her new office in their neighborhood. found out the vet had huskies as well and i really think that makes all the difference. it seems over the years she has hired more people on that also have huskies, so i am never saying sorry for all the dog hair they leave on them or for Jacks talking in the office

Not too many huskies around here. One vet tech has one but mine are apparently different than the local huskies because they always are surprised by how good mine are. Lol.

I went thru people trying to give me advice all the time with my husky Kimber. At the dog park, the vet, the pet store, obedience training. A husky will be a husky. lol My obedience trainer tried to tell me a husky shouldn't pull it's owner or jump up. She wouldn't pull extremely hard and the jumping was easy she didnt even use her nails. He showed me how to get her down and while doing so hurt her by knocking her to the floor and chipped her tooth. I was so upset and talked to the manager. Luckily she was ok and since we only had one day left of training we went the next session. She passed with flying colors, best dog in the class. I told the trainer when we got our certificate I told you shes a husky not stupid or disobedient and well never be back here. He didnt know what to say. Huskies are amazing and smart dogs. I wouldn't trade their personalities for nothing. Your Misty is so beautiful. <3
