Forum Rules
1. Here we prefer clarity to agreement. Obviously not everyone is going to agree on a topic; here we prefer to talk out our differences in a respectful manner to ensure mutual understanding and respect.
2. Read the Stickies and Announcements. Each sub-forum may have specific rules which trump the Forum Rules in cases where there may be conflicting information. Read the rules of each board before you post so that you are clear on the expectations of the staff.
3. Respect ALL Staff and Admins. These people volunteer of their time and MUST be respected as well as their word adhered to. They are responsible for maintaining a free, open, clear and organized forum. Anyone found to be openly undermining any official ruling by a staff member will be warned.
4. Signatures: One picture only and no links. Images: To keep the forum looking neat and tidy, we ask that members insert just one picture only in their signatures. The picture should be no more than 200x500 pixels and should be of an appropriate subject, for example, your dogs and their names. Should you need assistance creating an appropriate signature, please PM an Admin and we would be happy to help! This is to ensure that signatures remain a welcome addition to our forum instead of a cumbersome distraction. Links: Hyperlinks in signatures--unless to a personal blog or photo stream of your dogs (like Flckr or Piscasa, for example)--are strictly prohibited. Please PM a staff member with any questions or concerns regarding this rule.

Hey all y'all!
I'm Weda and my Sibe's name is Murphy Shenanigan. Murphy is approximately 1 year old, though I don't know his actual birthday, and he's only been with me for about 2 months now. Since he came into my life on St. Patty's Day, I decided that that would be his birthday. LOL.
Murphy came to me via a friend of a friend, who had gotten him from the humane society. Unfortunately, when the person adopted him from the shelter, they didn't know what they were getting themselves into. They had never had a husky before, and from what they told me, their daughter (11 yr old) saw him at the shelter, thought he was cute and chose him on that criteria alone. As it turned out, they were not able to handle his "huskiness" and turned him into an outdoor dog who slept in a shed. After numerous complaints from their neighbors (the pup likes to cry & howl), they started asking their friends if anyone wanted him. Luckily, my friend found out about him and put me in contact with them. I went and met Murphy, who was named Liam for the 1 week they had him and prior to that was named Sabre. After meeting him and talking with his humans, I made the decision to take him.
I saw right away that the poor pup was starved for attention, and for an alpha. It seems the family had allowed the 11 year old to take care of him, which was just feeding and playing fetch. :-( So when I took his leash from them, I right away got him to sit (secretly thankful he knew at least that command) and he responded well to me.
Right away, the main issue I saw that Murphy had developed was that of nipping. ALL THE TIME. I'd go to calmly pet him, and it'd turn into a game of how quickly can I nip my human's hands. After a lot of work these past 2 months, I've finally gotten him to the point where he really only nips when he gets overly excited. He's doing well in all his other training, except the "stay" and "come" commands. But they're a work in progress. Once he learns those two better, I'll begin agility training with him. He's also still working on walking on a leash without ripping my arm out of the socket; the boy LOVES to pull, like all good huskies. I've taken to keeping small, bite sized, treats in my hip pocket when we're outside and he seems to keep right by me, until he realizes I'm out of treats... Tomorrow will be our first day venturing out of the backyard and straying into the neighborhood. Fingers crossed that it goes well.
So...that, in a large nutshell, is my and Murphy's background.
