Forum Rules | 1. Here we prefer clarity to agreement. Obviously not everyone is going to agree on a topic; here we prefer to talk out our differences in a respectful manner to ensure mutual understanding and respect. 2. Read the Stickies and Announcements. Each sub-forum may have specific rules which trump the Forum Rules in cases where there may be conflicting information. Read the rules of each board before you post so that you are clear on the expectations of the staff. 3. Respect ALL Staff and Admins. These people volunteer of their time and MUST be respected as well as their word adhered to. They are responsible for maintaining a free, open, clear and organized forum. Anyone found to be openly undermining any official ruling by a staff member will be warned. 4. Signatures: One picture only and no links. Images: To keep the forum looking neat and tidy, we ask that members insert just one picture only in their signatures. The picture should be no more than 200x500 pixels and should be of an appropriate subject, for example, your dogs and their names. Should you need assistance creating an appropriate signature, please PM an Admin and we would be happy to help! This is to ensure that signatures remain a welcome addition to our forum instead of a cumbersome distraction. Links: Hyperlinks in signatures--unless to a personal blog or photo stream of your dogs (like Flckr or Piscasa, for example)--are strictly prohibited. Please PM a staff member with any questions or concerns regarding this rule. |

| Jen, I didn't take your comments that way at all. I wish I was able to have achieved what you did without having to go to the extreme. Not just because of the money but for all the stress it caused! It isn't easy making these types of decisions. He is dependent on us, so the weight of that is very heavy. All is good now though! |

| Pongo did this to us as well right around 5-8 months of age. I don't know what it was or if he was trying to test boundaries but he sure made us feel like dummies with our dog jumping up on us and biting. What we did was turn our backs to him with our arms folded every time he jumped up and tried to bite. Once he stopped we made him go into a down state by pulling the leash and giving him the down command. Once he calmed in this position, we would get up and walk again. It took quite awhile to get him to realize that if he acts up he will not go anywhere and he will have to lay down and be boring. He really changed his personality around 1 year of age though and completely stopped this. I don't know if it's the techniques we used or not but luckily it did cease. |

| So, it's been 3 weeks and I don't want to say he is cured because apparently I jinxed myself last time ( ), but he has not bitten me for almost 3 weeks on walks, in the morning to wake me up, or while playing. What did it for him was holding his mouth firmly shut every time he tried to chomp down. I was getting so frustrated because he was so relentless and hurting me - I would sharply yell "HEY!" and firmly clamp his muzzle shut, not to hurt him but just enough that he couldn't pull free and bite me again. After a few seconds of struggling he stopped and let out a whimper then I would let go and walk away. After about the 3rd time of this battle he seems to have made the connection. He still gets tempted to do it when overstimulated and forgets himself once every few days but yelling "HEY!" stops him right away. I have no idea how long this will last but this has been the longest stretch of time yet and I am staying hopeful. |
