Should you need assistance creating an appropriate signature, please PM an Admin and we would be happy to help! This is to ensure that signatures remain a welcome addition to our forum instead of a cumbersome distraction. | Hi all! I stumbled across this forum while researching the breed and so far it has been quite informative! I don't have an huskies yet, but plan on adding one to the family within the next year or two I know I can never really be prepared enough for the day I finally get my husky but any information you may have as experienced husky owners would be greatly appreciated Also if any members know any reputable breeders in Western Canada I would love to hear about them Cheers! ~Jessica |

| Welcome to the forum, Jessica! Kudos to you for doing your research beforehand I keep telling people that all the research in the world that I did STILL didn't prepare me for my Koda, but having it is so important I'm glad the site has been useful thus far, but if there are any holes lacking, please feel free to start a thread! I think your best place to start is the "So You're Thinking of Getting a Husky?" thread and some of the stickies around on training. I really need to start a "How to find a reputable breeder" thread, so maybe you joining will give me the kick in the butt to do that I don't know of any personally, but research and knowing what to identify will help you find one that you are comfortable with. Welcome to our group _________________ www.itsahuskything.com It's a husky thing... you wouldn't understand. |

| Thanks Koda! I found the "So You're Thinking of Getting a Husky?" thread to be a real eye-opener, I didn't quite realize how much Husky-Proofing a house required but I'm use to my pets getting into everything and anything (I have a ferret and two cheeky birds) but will definitely take more measures once I finally do get my puppy. I think the thread scared my boyfriend a bit (he's more of a cat/ferret type) but I have a year or so to calm him down I do have some concerns for the health and wellbeing of my birds and ferret should I get a husky. If I get a puppy around the 8 week mark is it possible to train him to understand the birds and ferret aren't meals? I would never let the ferret run around or the birds fly around in the same room as the husky, but would he still go after them in their cages, or would it be best if the the birds and ferret cages were closed off in another room at all times? Any insight would be appreciated! I don't think I would be able to look at my dog the same, or forgive myself if I came home and found my other three kids had been eaten |

| Welcome from Colorado! Nice to hear our topics are helpful. Definitely let us know of any questions you might have. From my own Husky experience, I don't know what kind of things people would be asking or thinking. I learned all of it the hard way.
I'm kind of in the minority on the other pets topic. I've seen Huskies as a highly pack driven breed and have had no problems integrating grown dogs into my house with a four pound dog and a cat. But that dog and cat have extensive socializing and that helps tremendously. In fact, the cat hangs out in the backyard with them. Sorry, I honestly would not be able to describe how I made it happen. I think a well raised pup would be fine. (Again, that's my opinion and not fact.) |
