| We decided to go with a puppy instead of a rescue for several reasons, I won't get into detail here but here are some pics of my beautiful new girl! (These pics kind of stink, but I promise to get better ones once she's done exploring her new home ) She is 14 weeks old and her name is Keeara. She looks like Selena's twin except she is a bit more gray on her sides!! |

First off, congrats on the pup - she's super cute!! Just curious though, how come you ended up getting her from the same place? I remember you mentioning the place you got Selena from, that her mother and father were pretty poorly bred... Not to rain on your parade or anything, but I'm just curious... |

I was curious about this too...when she said "the same place" I felt like it was purposefully not specifying because it's not the best place. She is very cute though, looks like her and Selena are already two peas in a pod. |

| The reason I went back to the same place is because all their puppies always leave there exceptionally healthy and they are wonderful people. Pik A Pup kennel in Holliston, ma to be exact. We are friends with several other husky owners who purchased their pups there and never had any issues! Keeara and all of her 28 pounds is 100% healthy, had first vet visit yesterday! I'd say she's going to be a big girl compared to Selena!!!!! |

- Thank you for the replies. I figured as much! The father looks so strange to me, I can't believe Selena came out looking as cute as she is!  Shocked I purchased Selena from a kennel right after my chihuahua died, I desperately needed a new friend to fill the void and I should of done my research and looked into the breeder before hand but I fell in love all over again when I seen her that I did not care. I just hope she stays healthy and I don't end up with problems like my chihuahua and have to send her to doggy heaven so early in life because of bad breeding  Crying or Very sad. When I looked up the breeder last night I couldn't believe the awful inspection reports I seen.
Part of me feels like I should keep my mouth shut, but honestly I just can't. After you posted this only a few months ago, I thought it was great that even though you didn't originally do your research, you were educating yourself about your dog and husky ownership in general. Now, less than 6 months later, you bought a dog from the same pet store, from the same breeder with awful inspection reports. Who knows, she might even be Selena's sister from her mother's next heat, places like that tend to breed every heat. There is a good breeder within an hour of you that health tests, and shows her dogs, and keeps them in healthy clean conditions. She also health guarantees her puppies. Mine currently has an undescended testicle, as I was planning on showing him, that is a disqualification. Even though he is only 5 months, she already offered me a replacement (without having to return my puppy of course). I don't have the space now, but she said at any point down the road if I do, then she will give me a replacement puppy. THAT is a good breeder, btw, she is 1 hour from you. - laura56083 wrote:

What you did was give your money to a place that treats their dogs badly. You said you saw it yourself in the inspection reports. I am not at all against purchasing puppies, obviously I did, but I am against supporting puppy mills, backyard breeders and pet stores. Don't kid yourself, that's exactly what you did. Twice. |

| Also, they don't only breed Sibes - they breed all sorts of different types of dogs!
http://www.pikapup.com/puppies/main.php?g2_itemId=36
It's not a bad thing if somebody makes a mistake and then takes the necessary steps to educate themselves so they don't make the same mistake twice... but, and I'm really sorry to say this, what you did was blatantly tell a full-out puppy mill "Hey, I'm a repeat customer! Keep doing what you're doing because there are people like me out there who will support you no matter how much I learn that you are only in it for the profit." This is one of the things I feel really passionate about, and I'm sorry to dump it all on you, but I'm still trying to figure out why... I'm glad Keeara and Selena are both healthy, but, sorry to say, they're still young. You never know what can happen, ESPECIALLY with places like these.
Pik-a-pup kennels is a full-out puppy mill, and no matter what anybody says, their website speaks volumes of how all they're interested in profit.
Laura, I'm really sorry you made the unfortunate decision to make the same mistake again, and I really REALLY hope your pups will live long and wonderfully healthy lives, but, if nothing else, don't tell other people that these guys are a good place to get a pup from. |

| After a little digging, they actually get their dogs from a mill in Iowa, so they are a dealer/pet store, not a mill, but that's just as bad. They are a link in the chain.
*That was generally what I found online, from purchasers and former employees. I don't know the specifics about Selena or Keeara, of course. |

| Well gee excuse me..... My chi who recently passed away only lived to 7 years old due to severe heart disease. You know where she came from, one of the best breeders around so I'm sorry but any dog, just like person CAN get ill no matter who or where they come from. I do not care if my animals do not fall in the breed standards and or aren't showing material..they are family and are with me now and that's all that matters.
I thought this forum had a lot of respectful, nice people but it doesn't seem to be that way. If you aren't happy with our new addition and are going to down grade us, please stay off our posts. After all, this is Keeara's SCRAPBOOK not Insultbook.

| honestly one way or another the dog is born and will go somewhere, just because she doesnt buy it from there doesnt mean some one else wont, and the next person could be a bad owner, or he/she could end up in a kill shelter. atleast this way the puppy gets a good life who cares how it was born, should someone not hire you because you came from bad parents? lol..
congrats on the pup, they seriously look identical |

Congratulations on your new addition. I am not here to bash you, but I am extremely insulted that you are actually recommending for other people to go to a puppy mill. There's nothing wrong with you, after doing your research, going to a puppy mill as that's your decision. But if I had not done my research, and saw your thread, I could've been an innocent person that went 'Hey, I really want a puppy like hers, maybe I'll go to Pik A Pup!'. I would not wish that upon anyone, I'm not saying that pet store dogs don't deserve to be loved, I have one myself, however I do wish for people to make an educated decision. I could not recommend someone looking for a husky puppy to go to a puppy mill knowing all the health problems and ethical issues that occur there. Try not to take offense, I simply would not wish you to recommend such a 'breeder' to someone not truly having a experience there when your dogs are still so young and health issues usually will not occur until a couple years down the road. |

Have a great day! You're right about the scrapbook, I'm sorry I brought this up here, but I agree with Mobezilla, that if you are naming a place and endorsing them, I think others doing research should have a chance to know what they are getting. Both of your girls are cute, and for me, the number one issue with your endorsement of pik a pup is the ethics of puppy mills. - moto1087 wrote:

It isn't about coming from bad parents, it's about the conditions the parents are kept in, and what happens to them when they can no longer produce, if they survive that long. The justification of saying the dog may end up in a shelter anyway doesn't change the fact that the money spent on that puppy supports an industry that is known for horrific treatment of dogs. I'm not an animal rights nut, I still OWN my dog, as Mobezilla said, people should know what they are doing. |

| Do I ever recommend anyone to buy from the same place? No I did not. My two dogs will always have a wonderful loving home for the rest of their lives (no matter how long that will be) and will never see a day in a shelter. If you do not enjoy viewing pictures of them then please get off this topic. I really thought you people were a great group of "friends" but all you see to be are insulting, rude people. |

| And to be honest I did search several reputable breeders, no one around had any litters available and I even looked in surrounding states. As some of you even know, we even went the rescue dog route and were going to adopt a husky that way too. So maybe it's my fault for not wanting to wait for a litter to be born at a reputable dealer. I AM SORRY, if that makes anyone fell any better! |

| Laura, have you thought that maybe people are so up in arms because you are the one being insulting? You knowingly and willingly bought a puppy mill dog after admitting before that you knew they were not a reputable source. Doing that is basically a slap in the face to members here who are advocates of knowledge and reputable breeding or rescue. It's saying that you are completely going against what many people feel strongly about. And deep down, you know it's wrong or you wouldn't have tried to skirt the question about where she came from in the first place.
Anyways. She's a very cute pup and I wish you all the best of luck. |

| I re-read my posts and I can see how it may have sounded harsh, so for that, first off, I really am sorry. I didn't mean to put it in such a way that you would feel put down or hurt. But please, please understand that there were many other routes that you could have taken. Did you really need another puppy when you have Selena already? I made the same mistake of getting my puppy from an un-reputable source (a BYB), and although he hasn't had too many bad health issues, they're still there, and they will always be able to crop up at a moment's notice. Maybe things didn't work out for you the past couple of times, but with the same token, maybe there could have been a puppy out there for you a year or two down the road who would have been a much better match (not to say this one isn't, but things could have been different).
I was just confused why you went and supported a puppy mill when you yourself had the intelligence and sense to realize they were not a good place to begin with... |

| laura56083 don't let everyone rain on your parade. I doubt you regret for one second that you got that puppy because I bet you are already in love with her and her amazing personality. I do not support any un-reputable breeder either, and I am sure you do not morally support them, That does not mean your not allowed to fall in love with a puppy from one. You cannot control your heart, can you?? Sure it is better off not to buy her and support them, But face it you were in love and if you didn't she would/could have gone into a bad situation herself. I guess best thing to do in the situation is get her and report ANY health issues to help get the place shut down if she has anything go wrong with her. CONGRATS on your new love, hope you enjoy her! :DShe is LOVELY.
I do not think anyone was being Rude, but no reason to push a point beyond any return.
