1. Here we prefer clarity to agreement. Obviously not everyone is going to agree on a topic; here we prefer to talk out our differences in a respectful manner to ensure mutual understanding and respect.
2. Read the Stickies and Announcements. Each sub-forum may have specific rules which trump the Forum Rules in cases where there may be conflicting information. Read the rules of each board before you post so that you are clear on the expectations of the staff.
3. Respect ALL Staff and Admins. These people volunteer of their time and MUST be respected as well as their word adhered to. They are responsible for maintaining a free, open, clear and organized forum. Anyone found to be openly undermining any official ruling by a staff member will be warned.
4. Signatures: One picture only and no links. Images: To keep the forum looking neat and tidy, we ask that members insert just one picture only in their signatures. The picture should be no more than 200x500 pixels and should be of an appropriate subject, for example, your dogs and their names. Should you need assistance creating an appropriate signature, please PM an Admin and we would be happy to help! This is to ensure that signatures remain a welcome addition to our forum instead of a cumbersome distraction. Links: Hyperlinks in signatures--unless to a personal blog or photo stream of your dogs (like Flckr or Piscasa, for example)--are strictly prohibited. Please PM a staff member with any questions or concerns regarding this rule.

It is with a sad heart that we say goodbye to our big guy Rockie. Rockie was discovered to be suffering from a very aggressive form of cancer through a follow up wound check today. We had to make the decision to send him on his way to the Rainbow Bridge and end his suffering. We miss our big boy but know he's in peace now.

I'm so sorry Lani. Did you just find out about it today and had to make the decision today? That's so sudden and must have been terribly hard.

I'm sorry to hear of your loss, but good to know he is at peace now. When I lose a pet, I write down everything I loved about them and some funny stories that we shared together. It is hard to write, but years later when I read it, it always puts a smile on my face.

Thank you all. Yes this was very sudden. Just about a month ago we took him to the vet for some bloodwork as he had been having infrequent seizures. He had also developed what appeared to be an abscess on his neck. While the vet drained and cleaned the abscess she noted the underlying tissue seemed inflamed and unusually thick. Her thought was potential cancer, combined with the seizure activity she strongly suspected a tumor as his bloodwork had come back perfectly normal so no metabolic cause for the seizures. We decided to make him comfortable and give him what time he had left.

When I got home from work yesterday I though he had been bitten by another dog. His neck was gashed open but not really bleeding. I rushed him to the vet where they had found it was not a bite but the abscess site had reopened and it was full of necrotic tissue. There was also a new abscess feeling lump in his arm pit. That too was examined and found to be the same condition. Since there is so much vasculature that runs from the neck to the armpit it indicated spreading of this issue and our vet told us it must be a very large aggressive issue to see what we're seeing and it was time to make a decision. So with his head in my lap we sent him on his final journey. I still can't believe from a suspicion a month ago to today my boy is gone.

And yet, you never lose sight of how absolutely extraordinary that very ordinariness is, how difficult, remarkable and rewarding that fight to be 'just like everybody else' has been."  -Gwen Cooper, "Homer's Odyssey"
