| I waited to respond..but I really don't know how to explain to such an obvious idiot why he is an idiot....
Perhaps if they had laws regarding the breeding of humans, we wouldn't have to worry about the breeding of dogs....

Yes, they legitimately do. I have seen them on FB and I have seen them IG. I did enough digging and actually FOUND a breeder that does ALL HER BUSINESS on IG. Posts pictures of her "pomskies" on IG, people say they want them, and that's the end of it. Made me sick. |

| There was a thread here on Huskitas last week that turned into one about Pomskys. They have to be artificially enseminated to breed because of the body size difference. It's really sad.
They're one of the newest and most popular designer breeds out there.
Search and the breeder pages are everywhere. Reading them is sickening. |

| yeah i was following the huskitas post - up to a point, and so must have missed the pomskies part. i get the cuteness factor of a dog combination like this. take two cute dogs and cross them for a cute explosion. but then clearly these people dont use their brains because cuteness shouldnt play any kind of role in the breeding of two animals. especially disturbing if they cannot even breed naturally. |

But..........that's what people do..........if they didn't there would be no need for pure breeds and dog shows. Those things are designed and molded for people breeding purely on looks to get certain effects and its the reason the breeds have evolved as they have. Human beings took something they found attractive and useful from the wild, breed it into captivity and then kept breeding it to gain certain effects(often visual) and now from 1 species we have diverged thousands of "breeds". You have a dog right now, because somebody said in some form or another that pretty, I want that. |

| Actually, dogs evolved and were bred for specific functions, its only in the last 50-75-100 years that we began breeding specifically for looks and thus grossly distorting some historic breeds. Also, show breeders do much more than just "take two cute dogs and cross them." They are breeding to the standard, and ideally the standard was created based on a specific function in mind, for siberians it is to breed a moderate sized dog to run moderate distances. Thus having the ultimate goal of preserving and bettering the breed. Unfortunately, the standards have been altered over the years (some breeds more than others) and that's when the show dogs begin to lose the balance of function AND form, not just form. In my mind, function includes temperament, drive, and various instincts, for example a border collie's ball obsession, or a huskies 'sled head.' Another unfortunate fact is that certain dogs go through fads of popularity (chihuahuas, dalmatians) and inexperienced breeders pop up and breed terrible examples of the dogs (in relation to the standard) to make a quick buck. An example of this in our breed, is people assuming a 40 lb female husky is 'small.' Anyway, I think there is a big difference between someone breeding pomskys, huskitas, vs. a breeder with the ultimate goal of preserving the breed. |

But humans DID NOT take two dogs that couldn't physically breed together and get puppies out of that. There is no function behind a pomsky and I personally think the risks outweigh the cuteness. Bulldogs are another breed that have to be AI because humans have so grossly destroyed the shape of that breed. Look at german shepards. The standard for them here in the US is so bad, most people who use them as working dogs import them from other countries because the slope of their back makes it so they can only work for a maximum of five years before they start having issues. Its saddening for the dog. - Quote :

I agree, its about bettering the breed. Taking the breed and working on making it better for the job it was bred for. Most dogs today (that aren't designer breeds) were actually bred for a purpose, because they were good at something. |
