So the dogs and I spent a good bit of time this spring biking. I didnt have any bike-jouring equipment but just regular harnesses. We worked up to where they were pulling about 6 miles. I thought it would be fun to try it with a sled but I'm not sure how much more weight/resistance that would be for them. I weigh about 180lb. Do you think that in addition to a sled would be too much for them. Anyone have any recommendations on a sled or a decent place to get some affordable equipment. Not looking for anything outlandish...we don't even get a lot of heavy snow so I would probably only use it a couple times a year.

With two dogs you could look into skijoring then you just have to buy skis and harnesses and a skijoring belt and skijoring lines. It's normally less expensive and it's easier to transport.

That sounds interesting. Do you just get regular skis or skis specifically made for jouring?

Cross country skis are used in Skijoring- but you can look into getting a kick sled as well if you aren't real comfortable on skis

I actually got a book about skijoring because I love sledding but I currently have one dog and not a ton of money. It's called "Skijor with your dog" and its by Mari Hoe-Raitto and Carol Kaynor. It's a really nice reference and a easy read. This is going to be my first year trying it out.

Another kick sled, see avatar and signature pics. This is from Norway and has steel runners, works very well on hard pack snow. One person can use it with one dog if they help kick, with two dogs it should be easy to pull.
Skijor on the other hand is the best thing since instant pudding. You work close with your dog and form a partnership, I really enjoy it, I think because I can keep up the dogs pace better than running so I get as much exercise as the dog does. I like to say the dog increases my glide not just gives me a ride.
